Hey guys I've been reading a few threads and was trying to get educated on an electric fan swap.

From what I gathered and whats easiest for me to get my hands on was a taurus fan.

Looking to spend less than $100 if that's possible. I just want something simple and dependable! What do you guys recommend?

Why are you thinking about this mod? Just curious

Well I've had my truck for about 2 years and its never had a fan shroud and recently lost a fan blade and was causing hella vibrations! I had to saw the blade across from it off to balance it out so instead of replacing all of the above I wanted to just go ahead and put an electric fan in! Lol

Electric fan conversions are the best way to go in my opinion. Even with the added electrical load it consumes less engine power than a clutched fan will. And if you add the thermostatic control switch it won't be running at all when you are going down the road.

Well good enough reason for me:D I did the conversation with a flex a lite kit and it made it real easy. i am sure your idea would work just need to figure out heat controller, witch I am sure flex a lite makes. Our I could make you a deal on my stock fan and shroud I have in the shed:)

Electric fans draw current and load the electrical system, thus increasing the load on your alternator, which draws horsepower from your engine. However this draw is less than the load that a standard clutch-type fan draws on a continuous basis. There are also thermostatic switches that measure engine coolant temperature, and as long as that temperature does not go above a certain point, the electric fan stays off. When you are driving down the road the air that is naturally being forced across your radiator helps to keep your engine cool. This means that while driving down the road, your electric fan will not come on either. Thus saving you load on the engine, and horsepower.

Now we are not talking 20 horsepower here, more like 1-1.5, but every bit of power drain you can eliminate from your engine helps increase longevity, and MPG.

I recommend flex-a-lite. I ran one on my XJ with thermostatic control and a shutoff switch wired in. It worked flawlessly.

I love my flex-a-lite. When it kicks on you can put your hand in front of the grille and feel the air being sucked in. Like said above it is suppose to free up hp's but its not enough to really notice on the butt dyno but the less drag on the motor definitely can't hurt anything.

    I put a Mark8 /taurus fan on my 04 F150 5.4 3v and i picked up a SOLID 1 MPG on the highway.

I had a light that would let me know when it would come on (just to make me feel better) and the air flowing across the blades on the interstate made the fan freewheel and the light would come on. Just thought you would like to know!

I thought the tacomas had an electric fan???

Nope. They all have clutch fans. The 2nd gens might but I know the 1st gens don't.

Did you check your mpg's? If it picks up an mpg that'd be cool. I'm looking at the kit on summit racing. Never really considered doing this.

No, I don't really watch my mpg's. That is the kit I got. It was pretty easy to install.

Electric fans are much quieter too...I get annoyed by the constant woosh of the stock fan
