Are you getting bad MPG?

Good points , however , I feel a Tacoma should get similar mileage to a passenger car , especially the DCSB , because essentially it is a car

I guy I work with decided to make his windshield wipers quick-detachable, he basically takes them off and if it starts raining will pull over and put them on again. I haven't looked closely at how he did it but he takes the whole assembly off, arms and all. Gained about 5 mpg's, at least according to him. Aerodynamics plays a big part in mileage, look at how the honda insight and toyota prius are shaped.

Point being, a "truck" shaped object is never going to be as efficient as a car.

 

ya and im sure my tow hitch ball drags on another few pounds and plays a part in my shitty gas mileage..

Did my calculations today on my first fill up on my new PreRunner and I got an average of 19.1 mixed city and highway, that's pretty good in my book. Looking forward to my first trip to the ranch next week to see what she does all highway. Dreaded those trips in my Tundra, averaged 14mpg round trip for 400 miles empty.

They're in a high pressure bubble at the base of the windshield.
There's a reason your ventilation air intake is there.

Wipers or not, there is a positive pressure bubble at that point that is rotating FORWARD.

He might be getting better flow into the vents... but it didn't do anything to improve his mileage.
If it were at all effective, automakers would take advantage of it and make the "parked" position straight up at the sides of the windshield.

 

Wife & I bought a '13 v6 Dbl Cab 4x4 sr5. I just hit 1,000 miles. Truck had a few on it when I signed the papers. Filled up 3x now. Average mpg is 18.6 with 60/40 city/hwy split.

 

i bought a 06 DC TRD off road on 44 IROKs SASed, fox 2.0 shocks today.

immediately took it to the body shop and got to changing my aerodynamics to increase fuel mileage.

body:
the dc was not that aerodynamic so i cut, chopped and welded it to make it more aerodynamic. changed the sweep of the hood, the front glass and closed the bed up to add better departure air flow.

frame and drivetrain:
the 4x4 was heavy and the 4.0 was more than i would need since i cut tons of weight from the body and will be doing the same for the frame. i decided to just get rid of anything i didnt need to help fuel milage. tcase and tranny gone, replaced with a more MPG options. the 4.0 is gone now and i went with a 4 banger due to the 46.33% better fuel economy over the 16-17 in the v6. i cut and shortened the frame and put it on a diet. then i went to work on the gear ratio and chucked the 3.73s in the axle and went with a MPG favorable option.

wheels and tires:
got some smaller wheels and thinner meat on the wheels. not cookie cutters but close. also tucked them under the new body and that helps with aerodynamics.

finally:
i sold the 4.0, the tranny, the tcase, the gears, the shocks, the body, the wheels, tires, and most of the weight.

i put a picture of the most aerodynamic tacoma ever assembled, but i shaved the badges so no one will know what it is. every one is like man what is that!?! man what are your MPGS!?! can you go fast in that!?!
