Yea that's what I was thinking before I go ahead and install them. Also thinking about buying better bulbs. PIAA or Phillips is what I'm lookin at.

Is there a specific type of silicone you would recommend? :notsure: I just bought a tube of RTV for my deck plate mod (later) and I'm guess that wouldn't be the type :p

U-bolt flip kit and rear spring relocation plates. Seriously doubt he bought a body lift though.

Definitely go with upgraded bulbs, my trucks headlights look ugly with the stock bulbs after I see all the white headlights people have around here.... There a couple of threads on which is the best to buy...

As for the silicone I'd just buy some clear silicone. Shouldn't really matter what type.

Yeah just use regular clear silicone. It will seal them up nicely but still allow you to get them apart if you need to open them up for a retrofit later down the road.

ffirg - What size deck plate did you go with? Did you seal it with an RTV type of seal?

Yea I'm just slowly getting all the material for the mod. So far I've got a 4" deck plate and black sensor safe RTV. This is what I'll be using (http://home.ezonline.net/~jnburtman/deckplate.html) as a guide for the mod but the guy said to make a 4.25" hole for a 4" deck plate. The pic below shows the measurement of the part of my deck plate that would go in the air box. It's just under 4.5". Not sure what size hole to cut without it being to big/small.

By the tape measure, it appears that he needs a 4 1/2" hole.

    Wouldn't fit

I guess that's my route. Will just have to seal it up good if there's extra space.

oh is that the backside? I didn't know that deckplates actually stuck through the hole you cut.

I used a 4" deck plate as well. And yes, the hole is 4.25" I believe. And I didn't use any silicone or RTV on it :anonymous: I didn't have any handy and figure it doesn't really matter much. If I have water up to that level, I have other more serious problems. I've driven a lot in very rainy conditions and even through a few rivers and have never seen any sign of water anywhere near the airbox.

By chance met Deathproofduck and Diggstoyz at the store both own 2012 double cabs. I was beginning to lose hope that southern Oregon had memebers. Thank you TacomaWorld sticker!

Thanks ffirg! I'm pretty sure I have to cut mine at a 4.5" hole because that pic I posted of the backside of the deck plate is just under 4.5" so it wouldn't fit into a 4.25" hole. Now I've gotta find a way to get my hands on the right tools to cut

What brand is that deck plate? Mine is a Bekson. Now that I'm thinking about it, I think I had to dremel out the hole I cut to get it to fit anyway. I remember I couldn't find the right hole saw size and I think all I had was 4.25" Either way you'll get it figured out.

Mine is a Sea-Dog brand. I'm hoping to find someone that has a hole saw if not, I'll have to go buy a dremel and do it the tougher way. We'll see :D Thanks for the help!

Just trace the outside of the lip that is going into the airbox, and then cut it out. I did that. Marked, cut away, test fit, trim more, test fit, trim, etc.... Once you get it to where the plate will squeeze into the hole, file down the rough edges, and you're done. Slap some RTV on there, and voila.

anyone done the deck plate mod with a snorkel? i kinda want the best of both worlds... should get the same results with the deck plate mod and a snorkel and the deck plate mod without right? and then when you have the deck plate in you basically just have a stock setup with a snorkel? i know it seems like an elementary question, but i just want to be sure.
