Uh, not necessarily a garage question... but I'm looking for a vacuum for my house.
As a bachelor it's up to me to do this stuff, and I can at least pretend this is a power tool, right?

I used to own a Hoover WindTunnel, that thing was crap. I hate bagless.
I'm currently leaning towards a Simplicity Verve. My parents own a higher end model from these guys, and my friend owns an upright, and this is a real pro company.
I have stairs so an upright would be a pain in the butt.

    Anyone got preferences or advice?

And yes, the idea of obtaining a wife has crossed my mind, but isn't working out right yet. Let me know when they create that store.

I just bought a Dyson DC25 Animal last week, and HIGHLY recommend it. I'm really not an inside the house cleaning guy, fiancée does it, but I found myself cleaning the floors for at least an hour last week. The ball on this Dyson makes it sooo maneuverable. It’s an awesome sweeper, but a little pricy. Paid $440 for mine, but IMO well worth it. It works that good.

As for consumer reports, I don’t agree w/ them for sweepers. I have access to an online account, and research a lot of things through them. My previous sweeper was a Kenmore Progressive, which they ranked #1 for a couple years and now it’s #2. My new Dyson destroys that sweeper that they ranked so well for so long. When I bought it, I started reading reviews on Dysons from various websites, and mostly everyone that owned them loved them. My $0.02.

I got a baglkess Hoover Deluxe Elite. It was cheap at about $150, but it's crap. Buy a Dyson. More money, but better. My Hoover kicks out loads of dust.

I just checked consumer reports. They recommend the Hoover WindTunnel Anniversary Edition U6485-900 at $230.

You can go cheaper with the Hoover WindTunnel Anniversary Edition Bagless U5786-900 for $160

I've had the same Oreck for 11 years now. It is easy to use and can be serviced easy. I also like it for the stairs... It only weighs 8 pounds. They are expensive, but after owning one, I won't use anything else. JMO.

My advice is to get an old vacuum. I have an 80's Hoover upright and the thing is built like a tank. The motor, brush , and body are all built really ruggedly and is easy to service and repair. I bought it for $5 at a flea market 6 years ago. Most of the stuff they make today is junk.

Man. that Hoover held up pretty well with that barrage of bullets. I expected the plastic covers to explode. Wonder what would happen if I had used my Dad's Musket rifle.

I've got a Dyson DC17 Animal and 2 large white dogs that shed like fucking crazy year round. The Dyson was worth every penny.
