Tacoma is stock and staying that way, Pickup is TBA as of now.
Love my 5 speed, wouldn't want it any other way with a 4 banger, I feel sorry for DC 4 banger owners that only have the automatic, that must be murder. I test drove all Taco configurations except the 6 speed (they didn't have one), and the 4 banger auto was really sluggish, did fine in town, out on the freeway, not so much. I liked the auto in the V6, hood scoop drove me nuts though.

    None, except wheels.
While manuals can be a pain in the arse, specifically in stop & go traffic, and only then. There is no joy in driving an automatic, it makes driving absolutely boring. Stick all the way baby!!

Only time my manual pisses me off is when it fights going into reverse, other than that no complaints. Traffic does not bother me at all, but I got really strong legs too so clutching has no effect.

I agree with you.. Autos cost more to fix if they break, however, you are bound to burn out your clutch before I could see you ruining your auto.. that offsets the price of a new auto a bit.

But yeah, I think they are about the same.. I just know that dreaded feeling of when your auto tranny starts to slip.. end of the world hahaha

I drive a stick and have had several autos and stick.. Stick is my fave and will probably remain that way until I get old and lazy

I have a 6 speed TRD O/R. the only complaint I have is the damn rev hang from the dive by wire system. Other than that, everyone's complaints about it are things that I enjoy

1 - Said to be a notchy feel. I love that... The shift throws are short and you can really feel it click into gear. I can;t stand soft shifters.

2 - Said to be gear wayyy to low in 1st - It is definitely lower than it should be, but once you get used to it, its nothing to worry about.

3 - 6th gear is said to be geared too low as well. That is true also, but I have a CDL. 6th gear does just fine at 65-70mph.

4 - Rated as lower gas mileage. My average (calculated each time I fill up) stays in the 17-20 mpg range. I am 22 years old, I do not have a very light foot either.

As for strength, I only have 11,000 miles on my 2011 so I don't have much to say.

Personally I wanted the 6 speed Tacoma, but my dad came home with an auto. I think they are fun to drive. Im not sure if I would get tired of the stick shift or not. One day I will know, when I get a stick car.

Manuals- WAYYY more control. Going up hills, no waiting on your system to change gears. Engine brakes at any speed, and little things like being able to keep the rpm's high if you have a suped up truck.
For me? Manuals all the way. My bro has a Tacoma auto and I would no doubt pick a manual.
    Just a personal preference.
Also had a Luk clutch installed at 90k and love it.

Just shift the auto if you want to change gears or engine brake at any speed

    Pretty straight forward

Auto is stronger especially since it was designed for a V8 originally

    this and that...
its true, that the 6 speed manual trans in these trucks are the weaker of the two. i absolutely HATED the screeching from my TO when i had my xrunner. and the 5-6 shift grind? FORGET ABOUT IT. get the auto trans? aint nobody got time for that! ill deal with the 6spd cons. plus, try putting an exhaust on an automatic. atrocious.

While I think toyota makes far superior autos (far smoother than fords and whatnot) you can't really be connected with the vehicle you can't easily do some things it lets you get very off task you can't shift too high to save gas you can't on the fly change your shift points cant bump start you can't keep driving if your auto goes out but if your clutch goes out you can(don't stop learn to shift without the clutch and give it hell!) you have to keep your foot on the brake at stop lights on autos and you can't calm your friends pussys because they are to scared to learn and it's a good theft deterrent. There is some factual things that you just can't do in auto most of its opinion and part of its ego but what can I say.

All the reasons given for preferring a manual over an automatic are stupid except one; "I think shifting is fun".
Driving a manual requires more skill than an automatic? B.S. Many years ago my Granddad told me "if you don't know how to double clutch an unsynchronized transmission, you don't really know how to drive". ;)

    Agreed

This whole " I'm so amazing , I can drive a stick " is kinda funny to me , must be a new thing , most people my age can drive or have driven a manual vehicle in the past .

Why not take it a step further , " You're a pussy unless you can saddle and ride a horse "

Automatic is only good for Grandpa's Buick not a Tacoma.
