I have a AFE...I think it's a good thing...mainly because I have never had to buy another air filter!!! I installed it the day I picked up my truck!

Curious if those of you who have used a CAI found your mpg's change after the first tank of gas? Since installing it on sunday I've only driven about 80 miles and my mileage is down 1-2 mpg's from the last tank. Could this correct itself as I drive it more?

And I am pretty sure it's not a heavy foot, I've purposefully tried to keep my driving habits the exact same as before the intake.

I nevern saw any significant mpg changes (+ or -) from; an aFe drop-in, Volant scoop tied into the stock airbox, an aFe Stage II SI, or a URD.

I can't recall if I am getting less mileage with my aFe after install, but between my base PreRunner and my Off Road, the mileage is >50 every tank.

Right now I'm basing my mpg's off my Torque app, so I guess the app itself could be off. I've got 3/4 of a tank right now and generaly get about 300 miles before the low fuel light comes on so I've got a while before I can calculate my mileage based on refilling.

Stock, afe stage 2 si, urd.......never noticed any changes in mpg, then again I never run the truck past 1/4 of a tank so I just keep an eye on miles driven per 3/4 used tank.

Every fillup I just reset the trip odometer.....which I just now realized maybe a bad idea since our speedo is off and should effect "miles driven" I assume.

OP, ur truck maybe relearning/adjusting things a little due to the battery being disconnected....this may include shift points if ur auto which can effect mpg.

Give it 3 tanks of fuel to go through.......then id feel better about doing mpg calculations.....also I believe octane rating MAY effect mileage some.....I've heard it on hear before, but I do not know if it is indeed a factor since I run 91 all the time

I have had mine on for a few months. I run the torque app as well and track everything religiously. I noticed an increase in MPG in the warmer weather and it's about the same in the colder weather.

    possibly "winter gas"?

or would it be possible the cooler air allows for more fuel to be dumped in?

Im not sure, maybe someone else can say yes or no

Well, it looks like I'm going to have a chance to compare a volant with an afe back to back. My neighbor just wrecked his 05 and it's sitting in his driveway right now. He told me I could come over and take whatever I wanted off of it before he sends it to the junkyard so I'm going to take out his AFE stage 2 and put it in mine for a while. Which ever one I decide to keep, I'll post the other one for sale in a couple weeks. I haven't even driven through 1 tank of gas on the volant so I can't make any decisions on it yet, I'll probably put 2 tanks through each intake and also put a tank through the stock intake, so eventually I'll have some actual hard numbers I can compare the 3 with.

Yeah, he got t-boned taking a left turn, some little high school girl ran a red light. Lucky for him it was the passenger side and he was wearing a seat belt, same for the girl. Nobody hurt but his frame is bent pretty bad and his door can't open anymore. He's a little tapped and I always thought a little weird but turns out he's a pretty nice guy.

As for the intakes, I'm keeping track of AFR numbers and long/short term fuel trims. I drive about 220 miles a week so to go through a couple tanks of gas is going to take at least a month but I'll post up everything once I make a decision about what I want to keep.

What does 'a little tapped' mean?

That's actually a pretty cool thing to be able to do since most of us only buy one CAI and only have just the stock to compare it to. Plus comparing different trucks and driving styles makes numbers somewhat subjective.

Ha, maybe that's a local expression? I meant he's a little bit odd, like "crazy in the head". In the summer you'll see him outside with a pair of scissors trimming parts of his grass so it's all even.
