Best axle for SAS????

Ive found a Dana 30 setup with arb locker and 4.88's that would match my current gearing for only 900. Its currently on a jeep so im thinking that would cause problems width wise but wondering whats the best axle to go with in the front.

D44 for up to ~37's safely

D60 for everything else.

There are other options too that Im not well versed in so do some research. And by some I mean A LOT!

 

OH and you'd snap that D30 like a twig on any serious trail, that's why the rubicons come with a D44 up front, even Jeep knows the D30 sucks.

 

I wouldn't bother with a Dana 30. If you are going to dump a ton of money into a SAS, get a stronger axle than that.

 

I only say that because let's be honest, who's going to swap a tacoma to run freaking 33's

 

so definately not Dana 30 lol.

Looking to maybe running a 40" tire, truck will see a lil offroading but nothing very aggressive, ive had 37's on my ifs and played around a lil but now its time for some big boy sh*t and doing my homework.

So looking like ill try and find a Dana 44 for the front, getting coils from polyperformance, hydrolic steering, and fab rest as we go.

Just SAS'd a 00' durango about 2 weeks ago and that thing turned out beautifully.

 

yea that a whole lot of money lol. on the durango with getting axles from junk yard, nickel and diming here an there all in all we had a total of 6k in it by the time was said and done.

reason asked about the 30 was saw one for sale around here for 900. by the time got the rest of all parts figured i couldve been about the 6k range

I am at $2500 building the front axle alone. High pinon kingpin, 4.56 gears, spartan locker, all new bearings seals, shaved housing, 35 spline chromo inners and outers, 35 spline warn hubs. And I got some swingin deals.

And screw the arb up front...thats why you have hubs. Unlock for street driving.

If you're gonna wheel it actually, do it right the first time. 40's wont last on anything but 35 spline D60 :2cents:

 

yea me and my buddy whos done fabbing on buggy's and other crawlers is helping me do it when i get all the parts.

Cost is just helping wire his shed and help out with some ranching

OP, if you want to run 40" tires, even a d44 is a no go. Don't use anything smaller than a 1 ton axle. D60 for the front, more options for the rear like d60, d70, d80, and 14 bolt.

What's your budget for this build look like? Good advice in this thread...

The rubi 44 is still pretty much a Dana 30, only difference is the center section. Did hear they made some upgrades to it though.

As far as best axle I say a custom 9.5 with 80 outer's or just a fabed 80 housing and stock guts, but thats if you have crazy money. If not then a Dana 60 will do just fine. Rear could has a lot of good choices 14 bolt, Dana 60, Dana 70, and sterling 10.25.

Also Adams truck does very well on 33's, it has impressed me multiple times, don't always need 40's.
