I prefer manuals but I will admit there are times that I wish I had an automatic. I also refused to pay an extra $3,500 for an automatic transmission when I am very capable of shifting.

At the end of the day though it simply is personal choice and preference.

There is a difference between someone who can drive a manual and drive one well. Being able to shift without the clutch shift smoothly and do so without the tach. All the people hating on a manual or saying there is no good reason for one are just jealous that they can't drive one well. Hell even my mom can still drive a manual and knows that there better for actual driving. Now that's not saying she can drive one well...she drives it like the 3spd international scout she learned in....

I wish I could drive a manual well. Maybe I would have gotten one and had a sweet sounding exhaust. Because racecar.

I push started my dirt bike a bunch of times, but if one of my vehicles had a dead battery, I would jump it with one that had a good battery. And you can shift the second gens auto when you want too.

X2 driving without one is hard......you have to push for a long time.

I'd guess he thinks the manual sounds better because it runs at a higher rpm at pretty much all speeds compared to the auto and "louder" must equal "sounds better"

Not sure where the rev limiter comes into this, but I have an auto and abuse the hell out of my rev limiter fairly often haha. 4Lo with 4.88 diffs gears and non paved roads can equal rev limiter all day long if you want it to.

I hate this argument because you can choose what gear you want to be in in an auto. Sure if you put the shifter in 3 it will run from gears 1-3 rather than just be in 3 like a manual but how often are you in a situation where you need to force it into a higher gear. The only one I can think of is trying to take off on a really icy surface. In my car I can take off better in 2nd than in 1st because the lower torque from the higher gear makes it easier to prevent wheel spin. In an auto this isn't as necessary because you can just let off the throttle and if it doesn't creep forward on its own you can lightly ease into the throttle. Can't do that in a manual since it would kill the motor so you just start off in 2nd or ride the clutch in 1st. Plus we have trucks here not cars, just put it in 4WD as you as coming up to the stop and you can generally take off just fine, then you can just shift it back into 2wd after you get moving. Or in my case I can flip a switch to disable VCS and give it some gas and A-Trac gets me moving just fine, or for added effect I like to use my locker:cool: haha
First how often have you had to push start your Tacoma? I have had to push start my little hyundai accent here and there and thank God it only weighs about 2200lbs because there is never a downhill slope to push start it down. My Tacoma weighs around 5500lbs, while it is most likely still doable it would be an absolute bitch to push start.

Secondly, point proven. You claim the manual sounds better because you can rap it up to higher rpms. RPM for RPM a manual and an auto are going to sound almost exactly the same and you can just control the shifter in the auto to delay the shifting as well. All it does for both tranny's is hurt your fuel economy.

Thirdly, what the hell does exhaust noise have to do with the strength of a transmission?

I understand why people like both tranny's but in my taco I will take my auto all day every day because it is less problematic than the 6spd seems to be and autos are way better when it comes to rock crawling and playing in the dunes. You can focus on driving and not have to worry about shifting while driving. In my daily driver car I enjoy having my manual. Makes it more fun to drive if I feel like getting on the throttle and playing a little here and there.

Don't know which is stronger but I can't stand autoboxes, I own 3 vehicles and each one has a 6 speed manual geabox.
