True FLow XDi Intake

yea my borla's good but compaired to videos online mine sounds weak.... like my friend has a borla for his VW and his sounds louder than mine dose in idel and under 2200ish RPM but after that my exaust is louder also with my Trueflow intake its more of a sleeper you realy cant tell i have anything done to the truck when im under 1200 RPM but soon as i take it above 2000RPM people think i dropped a V8 into it ... and im not saying im geting tons of HP gains and i dont want to go to the only dino i found within 25 miles because there saying for a full dyno test its guna be over $300 so unless i get headers, and probly convert to true duel exaust im not guna waist the money but probly not guna get the headers till my waranty is up with is 7 years cuz im an idiot but if i get my BMW i can tell you what a trueflow will do on that for power gains to try to get an understanding unless someone else is going to dyno theres......

When are they gonna figure out the emissions for California? and what makes it not street legal compared to other CAI's

 

its not CARB approved yet but it might have been since iv posted so i dont know but reality is no ones ever guna look at it unless you get it emisson tested i dont know how it works in caliy but here a new vehical dosnt have to have it dont for 4 years so you realy dont have to worry and mines been to the dealership and they said nothing so id say your good eitherway

 

looking at the site , it is stated, legal in 50 states and carb approved

 

I just wanted to make sure i could grab an emissions sticker for it by the time i do have to get it emissions tested.

 

scratch what i just said, i don't care anymore about the emissions law. the new intake is worth it,(kinda reminds me of a WRX) but LOUD. When i drive through town i scare everyone.

Yes the True Flow XDI is a cold air intake system. It takes the coldest air available directly to the throttle body with the least disrumption of air flow. Yes the tube is aluminum, not cheap plastic, which may tend to warm the air slightly. But consider how many mili-seconds that air is going to remain in the tube before it reaches the TB....boom, it's in. As a matter of fact, the original factory air box could be considered a CAI due to it's design and where it takes the air from. It's main flaw is the restriction it puts on the air flow before it enters the TB. It's really quite simple.

 

I'd actually call it a cool air intake.

from my understanding of a cold air intake it takes air from the outside of a vehical via the hole in the fender and feeds it into motor.... thats why a true cold air intake cannot take any air from the inside of the engine compartment.... if you even seal a snorcal(cant spell) to an intake so only air from the outside can come in it is a cold air intake..............cold air cant come from warm engine air or air that comes by the radiator which is designed to disipate heat into the air and unless you move the radiator or made your vehical ram air i dont see that its realy cold air it might be called cold air but are you compairing the temp of the air to the temp of the motor cuz thats realy not that hard to acheive


maby Im wrong but thats what i define as a true cold air intake... look at all the real cold air intakes you all have there all sealed from the air inside you engine and thats why your not supposed to go threw puddles with a real cold air intakes cuz it takes the air from the inside of your fender which sprays water into the box but because of good design your filter is not located on the bottom of this box so it will not suck in the water that gets in.......

sorry just looked... Trueflow calls it a cold air intake so i guess im wrong sorry and the above is my defeniton of a cold air intake cuz i spent some time on that and dont want to erase it even though im wrong... but i still believe what i believe (and yess i realy cant spell)

That's the ticket CT, go with what you know. You are basically right about most of it. Actually none of the CAI's, out there really utilize true "COLD" air. They just utilize the coolest air possible. The TF XDI does draw it's air from the hole in the fender well, even though it's not directly attatched there. Hey it's all good man, and we don't even care if you can't spell, you are family.

 

I have my True Flow XDI for sale at the moment. I want to add something else to my truck and need the money. If it does not sell on Ebay then I am going to do a mod to it.
After having the TF for a little while I took the filter off one day and blew through it (I know strange, but wanted to see air flow) and then through the OEM filter. The TF filter seems very restrictive as you can barley feal any air on the other side. So I am going to put a cone style Green filter (like a K&N) in place of the TF filter. Green filters oils are not supposed to do damage to the MAF meter like I have heard K&Ns do. I think the cotton filter would flow better than foam. But the down side is the protection, TF foam will catch more than the cotton.
If this works and I notice a difference then I will post the mod/change on the site.

ohhh yea i was thinking of modding my intake to a ram air type setup but i like the puddles to much and i think it might be a problem

Sorry to bump such an old thread but I need some info. I may be able to pick up one of these for cheap. My problem is they have since gone out of business and you can no longer buy the cleaning kit and oil anymore. From what I have read some say you can use kits for dirtbikes as the filters are the same basic foam type. It's a long shot but just wondering if anyone is still running this intake and what they are using.

 

I used a TruFlow drop-in on my last truck, and yes you can use an oil made for a foam air filter. My understanding, maybe it's marketting, not sure, is that the oiled cotton gauze filter oil (K&N), is a bit different then the foam oil.
