2013 or 2014 Tacoma?

Well if something like a very nice new v6 engine went into the tundra, mostly likely it would make its way into the Tacoma. Since that didn't happen i don't think we can't expect to see anything earthshaking coming our way. It's just a bit of a let down, i was hoping to see a new v6.

 

Tundra is just an appearance refresh and nothing more, to me that is. I do like that they are pulling the 'block' or 'Tonka' truck appearance architechure, namely in the rear bumper/bed area. I am a big fan of the current 4runner, which has the same blockiness.

What Toyota needs is to expand their engine and drivetrain options, perhaps take the a la carte appoach that Ford uses with 3-4 engines choices, and allowing you to pick your gear ratio. That 17mpg highway rated 5.7L V8 certainly is due for an enhancement although I'm sure its a blast to drive with.

Damn trucks are just as much money as a "mid-level" priced BMW, and they are coming right out and telling us that they make the most money off truck sales!

It has a V6 now.

 

V-6 (4.0), 4.6 and 5.7 engines. No manual transmissions all automatics

I'm growing very unhappy with Toyota. They're taking their 'best selling' status for granted. The Tacoma and the Corolla are perfect examples. It took them how long to get leather and navigation in them? (You still can't get a sunroof in the Tacoma) The Corolla has some of the worse mpg and power in it's class yet still is the number one selling. This arrogance will catch up. The Tundra still looks ugly and bloated AND they didn't even address the biggest issue they had with it; the frame! Wake up Toyota, you have one more chance to keep me as a customer. If you don't give me a better Tacoma, I'm buying a F-150.

 

Loved my 05 PR-AC but after looking and driving the a new F150 it was time to change. For less than 1K more than a new Taco 4X4 AC w/ OR pkg! And this is compared to an XLT Screw 4X4 with a lot of bells and whistles. After I told the dealer when the new Tacoma truck came in couple weeks ago you could see it in his eyes that this has happened a lot lately. The difference is dramatic. About a foot longer and 4" wider but the suspension really works. 36 gal fuel load, and super smooth drive train. 5.0 engine gets it done. BTW - all told there was $6,250 in kickbacks which made the price shrink a lot. Go drive one for grins and giggles. FWIW, you'll be amazed IMHO.

 

An F150 will be my next truck. I like the Taco but I want something bigger next go around. Theres a Ford dealer a reasonable drive drive north of me that usually has some really good deals. I've been a little tempted. But with all the money I've thrown at the Taco I'd like to get at least a few more years out of it.

 

Few more years then the Ford Atlas will be out that will probably be my next pickup.

 

I really would like to see the Tacoma with an available Hybrid V6 motor, the fuel economy is horrible on the current 4.0 and I'd like to think that Toyota could do a lot better since its no longer the 1980s and technology has advanced...although you'd never know it by a 16 mpg rating

 

I'll agree with the mpgs being bad for what its is, but I also believe there is more potential to this motor than we or atleast most of us can see. There are guys on here that have changed nothing but the injectors and crank out near 400 HP turbo's on a stock motor(room) so one should be able to unlock some mpg mod to do the same. 4 cup mileage and v8 power would be nice and were kinda half way there.
