2wd? NO lol you'll need 4 lo..unless you plan on swapping out your silly electric T case for a twin stick FJ case for 2wd lo..haha was to steep for 2 hi..might not be a huge issue for autos..but manual..no way.

4wd will be also very important cause the ground every is super rocky in a gravely way..

See in Wy there are 3 types of surfaces to drive on

    1) Soft powdery dusty dirt. Like at the base. Its everywhere. Turns to SSSHHHIIIIIITTTT when it gets wet.

2)Soft sandstone "rock"/ betonite soaked dirt. Breaks if you hit a slider or skid..doesn't cause a lot of damage. Bentonite turns to SHHHHIIITTTTTTTT when it gets wet. I call it super glue mud. It won't come off for ever unless you wash it off within 15 mins of it getting on

3)Granitie rock. This..is NOT like slick rock or really anything. You remember the very very begining of Elephant hill? think that. The ocastional ledges and very large rocks...but most a TON of smaller boulders or just gravel mixed with the soft powder.

Traction will be a bitch on some of the corners. A lot of them it won't be.

    Im not doing 2wd though..

but you could get they im pretty sure win just 2wd..road to the switch backs is real easy.

    Sunday actually id think.

Nice description of the surfaces to drive on here Monte! My job has a geology back-end and I spend a fair amount of time out in the field working with the drill rigs and our wireline trucks, my favorite, our PFN(promt fission neutron) probe truck :D Creating small scale fission downhole never gets old! The nerd in me always gets giddy when we ramp the voltage to the tool downhole :)

Anyways, the geologic units out here are lots of arkosic sandstone (stuff broken down from the granite mountain ranges here, Rattlesnakes, Wind rivers, big horns, blah blah) and volcanic ash and units related to it like bentonite (which absorbes a retarded amount of water per its molecular weight, slipperiest sh*! i know of which is one reason we use it as drilling mud...) and then the bigger chunks and outcrops of the granite itself wherever you find it, obviously most prevalent when you're in the hills and the steep trails. No good old dirt mud here, just straight GREASE lol.

    Sorry for the BS.

Side note, I was at CBI off road yesterday picking up my sliders. Kick ass shop and group of guys. They have a bunch of tacoma stuff in stock too! I will be going back, hopefully soon, for some bumpers :D

Here's to summer getting here faster!

Think i spent 5-8 bucks washing it off and he spent 10 or more...and wasn't even close to being clean. Was a fun trip though.

yep. Was our first attempt at doing the lander trails. Sadly for us we picked a weekend where it decided to rain from thursday to monday..strait..Wy can't take that kinda water..and it meant snow up top on the mountains. So we went to a different area a local guy showed us..WOW slick..i didn't even have to steer though cause Jon was cutting such big deep trenches in the road my little tires just followed it perfectly. It was freaking so nastly.

still fun...just one of those thing when your done your like...damn it..why did we do that again?? lol

Traction was more what I was curious about. I have an LSD that may help if its not way too slick and I have 2Lo as well. I have a switch that bypasses the ADD:D
And I bet I can go faster than you... :D

And follow Monte right up until I have to break trail for him, then he'll have to try to keep following me:p

I just can't sleep in style like you guys:pout:

Your stance is wider than mine. Haha. You rubbed though the gap on elephant hill and I wasn't even close. My 2nd gen really isn't that much bigger than a first, it just looks a lot bigger.

Came factory with the rear locker and it is E-LSD also know as ATRAC. I know people bash it but it actually works alright. Just not nearly as good as a locker. LSD won't affect my steering like a locker will though.
