My wife is an EMT for the town we live in and called and told me she overheard a call drop for a train derailment. I went down the street and took pictures of it. The train derailed only about a mile and a half to two miles down the road from our house. It just happened about 2 hours ago. Pretty epic one too.

Wow, lucky it wasn't carrying any chemicals or flammables. We had a derailment in my town several years ago just before Christmas. We had to evacuate like 3/4 mile.

I don't think anyone was hurt. The Fire Department was called out more for hazardous conditions or any fluids that may have spilled.

I forgot to add, I think the entire train and cars were empty so no bad hazardous stuff to jeopardize anyone. The roads were open as you can see just feet away from the train and cars.

Good they were empty, huh? Still a lot of mess to clean though, I'd bet. Wonder how the heck that happened? Engineer misjudge what speed he should be going based on terrain? Something in the way? Bet he'll lost his job for this, though.

It's amazing how fast the railroad companies clean these accidents up, they lose like a million dollars for every day the rails are closed. It'll probably take them 24 hours or so to move the cars to the side and repair the tracks.

    Intake, exhaust, lift. Typical stuff.
We used to put pennies on the track and a cop caught us once and said that we could de-rail a train doing that. I think he just wanted us to stop playing on the track.
