I've got an idea, since very few can make the meet, what if this month we just did mini meets whenever we can, get Matt (sligshot5r) out as much as we can and then all meet up at the sportsmans show the 28th?

Hey everyone. Just found out yesterday that I'm likely moving up there. Good thing I went with a 4x4 instead of a 2WD! I have a question about tires. Pretty sure my stock Rugged Terrains are not going to suffice for the Alaskan winters. What tires do you all recommend? And are tires way more expensive up there? Should I get them before I move?

IMHO your tires will do fine, but if you want something else I would buy them before you come up. Almost everything is more expensive up here so be prepared for that. Depending on where at in AK you're going you may want to make sure your Taco has a block heater. I got mine from Cali and it didn't. Oh... and take off the Texas edition sticker... it will make your truck lose horsepower in Alaska. Haha, Welcome to the last frontier

Sweet another texan haha. When are you coming up and what base are you going to be stationed at? As far as tires go....If your going to get new ones get em down there unless your going to have to ship them up then you may as well just buy em up here. As far as what tire to get I highly recommend blizzak DM-V1. I run those and they have deff. proven themselves. They are amazing on ice and even better on nice powder. At the moment I drive 600 miles every four days for work and Ive had to throw it into 4wd maybe four times this winter. There awesome tires. So what do you do?

You drive on them year round? I'll probably see if my tires are good enough but if they're not, looking for a tire I can keep on year round that's good in the snow too. My report date right now is December but I'm going to ask for it to be changed to this summer. Headed to Elmendorf.

I just moved here on Tuesday I shipped my truck from Hawaii.. I put on Goodyear duratracs.. This is my first time driving in snow and they are performing pretty good.. I went up chugiak and flattop in 2wheel drive.. It grabs well and still looks aggressive I have 33x12.5

Your tires can't be any worse than ben's and he's done some pretty impressive things with them

Hahaha it's so true. 33k on my stock Dunlop atr's (street tire) and I go just as far as the next fella with them. Call it throttle management skills if you want, I think it's sheer determination and will power lol.

Nah man there's something wrong with you and or your truck lol. The things you've done with those super slicks is unreal (and if I hadn't seen it for myself) unbelievable haha. If your looking for an all year round tire Ben is the guy to talk to. I've always swapped tires except for when I had my jeep and I had 33x10.5 bfgoody ATs and they did fine as long as you didn't give her to much gas. I'm running the same thing on my truck in the summer time for now. For being down in anchorage honestly you could deff get by with pretty much any tire as long as you take your time in the winter.
