I asked the receptionist if they had any openings recently....

Shots and worming are all up to date? Is he drinking/eating? Has he vomited? Has he eaten anything he shouldn't have? Have a look around his areas and see if there are signs of chewed up toys.

Hard to say w/o more info but I would be concerned if he's refusing food and water and would probably go to the vet if eating or drinking isn't happening.

    Good luck.

Did he eat anything he shouldn't have? Is he drinking? Is the diarrhea bloody?

Hope he feels better soon. :( poor pup

Is he dehydrated? Are his gums pale? If you press a finger on the gum then remove your finger, how quickly do the gums turn pink again? Does he have all his vaccines? Does he go to dog parks? Is there rat poison or antifreeze or onions or grapes or dark chocolate?

You can make a homemade bland diet for him (ask your vet, some recommend overcooked white rice with boneless skinless cooked chicken, others prefer overcooked white rice with lowfat drained cooked hamburger) for a couple days to see if that helps, if it is just an upset stomach and not something more acute. The panting and hiding worry me though.

If he's pooping then it doesn't sound like he's blocked from chewing/eating an inedible item. This is good-- gastric obstruction surgeries are $$$!!

If he has diarrhea for a few days or explosive diarrhea he will likely have bright red blood in the poop. This is much less worrisome than black tarry blood in the poop, but still needs to be addressed. I wouldn't do a 3AM emergency clinic for that if he's hydrated and otherwise OK though, but would go to a regular daytime vet the next morning.

If you are "regulars" at the vet see if they'll do a fecal test there without you paying for an exam, if you've been in just in the last couple weeks for something else. Dropping off a bag of poop is easy. Might reveal Giardia or a parasite that can be easily treated with some medication.

Hope you both feel better soon and figure it out!

large breed dogs with heavy bone mass get pano...it's only the growth plate fusing....it's something i always suspect will happen between 16/24 months...most vets will only prescribe "remadyl" or buffered asprin...allow the dog to exercise at their own pace, don't push them into activities that will make them sore later...pano,is sometimes called "shifting lameness",it'll move from joint to joint, limb to limb, call your breeder and ask for advice, see if other pups in the litter or from past breedings of same sire and dam to see what other owners experienced,or read from the "mereck vet manual" online...females tend to get over it quicker than males, keep your pups weight down and DO NOT add any extra calcium supplements.since there isn't a lot you can do as far as physical exercise, concentrate on simple, stationary training that the dog can do comfortably, great time for "ATENTION EXERCISES"(ie.look at me,good, yes, treat)the body may be down for a while but they can always exercise their brains....look at "tab289" or MICHAEL ELLIS,BART BELLON,IVAN BALABANOV ON YOUTUBE or go to the forum at(www.pedigreedatabase.com) for useful info on pano.

If he still has diarrhea in the morning, then no food for 24 hours. Give his system a rest. Then give him some white rice and plain hamburger or chicken. Just a little at first to see how he tolerates it. Maybe some pedialyte for the day. Good luck.

Dixie was actin a little odd when I got home today, too. She goes through spells where she can't really climb steps, can't jump on you, can't put her front paws on the banister. Every day when I get home, she's waitin on the porch, and when I get to the top step she jumped up onto the banister for me to pet her. Today, I told her to get on the banister, she just looked up at it, started to attempt, then just sat down. No idea what's wrong when she does that. It usually lasts a couple days then goes away and she's back to normal. Thinkin possibly arthritis? She's about 9...maybe 10 years old now.

Anyone with a larger dog use those harnesses for the seat belt?

I have two ~ 60 lb dogs and they have harnesses for truck rides.

I like the fact that they can't jump out when I open the door (they usually are good and wait, but I like the insurance). Annie doesn't care, but Zoie doesn't like harnesses anyway, but I put it on her anyway.

Here's my border collie "Beans." Got the Ruff Tuff seat covers so he could still ride shotgun. This is my second BC, love them for what they do.
