    - No heated mirrors.
    - No sunroof.
    - No power drivers seat.
    - Glove box needs stronger joints.
    - Clutch pedal assembly has an annoying creek which is a common problem for manual Tacomas.
    - No mpg gauge.
    - No homelink garage door opener.
    - fuel door lock that runs off the door locks.
    - Don't like the cheap plastic center console. It's a truck that pushes $30K, not a base Corolla.

    I guess that's subjective...'cause my base 2WD, 2.7L with the 5-speed tranny feels great.

I bought my truck new in '06 and have no intention of ever getting rid of it. I love my truck. The only two things that I don't like is the sun visor is loose and can't find a way to keep it where I put it. The other dislike is I don't feel any hot air coming out at my feet when I move the control knob to direct it there. BTW, did I say I love my truck?

I agree that it's silly to complain about options that weren't there when you bought it, but would have been available on a higher trim level.

That being said, I bought a "LOADED" TRD sport 4x4 with the 4.0 v6, entune w/navi, bluetooth, backup camera etc. and assumed that would was pretty much everything you could get. I was trying to figure out why I had so many blanks on dash and found out there were features I wasn't aware of that sounded cool that I don't have. Also there should be a 12v power outlet in the center console. While you are at it, move or duplicate the aux in audio port and usb connector in there too so my ipod and music are always out.

Oh and I love the tacoma size, but for the same price and gas mileage you can get a Tundra. I still can't fathom why the smaller truck gets the same mpg.. oh well.

I also have a TRD Sport 4x4 and have 2 blanks to the left of the steering wheel...I assume one is for the offroad trucks with the E-locker. the other I don't know??

And there are 3 blanks on the bottom portion of the center stack in front of the shifter...what would those be for??

So I added pics and am looking in the manual. In the center the far left and far right blanks are supposed to be for heated seats (I don't care.. so that's ok..)

The second from the left is supposed to be an "A-TRAC" switch. with a * saying "if equipped" which clearly mine isn't. This is supposed to transfer power away from one or more of the 4 wheels if they are slipping. I'm not sure if I care about that because I can't envision where that would be ideal. In the most intense rock crawling situation I think I would still want a wheel to spin even if it doesn't have traction.

On the left side top row: It's supposed to be RR Diff lock (again.. *if equipped damnit) This would have been a very nice feature to have married to a 4x4 truck IMHO!!!!

left side bottom row is the DAC button. Downhill assist seems like something I would never use actually. I get that it's nice, you can take your foot off the pedals in L4 mode going less than 15mph, but again I likely wouldn't use it.

Of all of these, I wish the locking rear diff was standard on 4x4 trucks.. I've always wanted a 4x4 and regretted not getting it on past vehicles offroad. My understanding is if you get stuck in 2wd and haven't already go to 4L. If you still can't, lock the rear diff. If still stuck, well.... Hope someone with a tow rope is feeling charitable.

I would like to be able to haul a 4ft wide piece of building material flat in the box. I was following a Ridgeline and couldn't believe he had a stack of 4 x 8 sheet rock laying flat in the back!!

    that would be nice

I HATE how there is no cargo lamp for the box, I use my truck and its a pain trying to load/unload when it is dark and heated leather seats that are not power

Thank you, my feelings exactly. Ford and GM make clear distinctions between entry level models and decked-out models.

    so does Toyota.

compare a 5 lugger base to a loaded TRD double cab.

or even a base prerunner double cab to a TRD.

I don't remember if I have posted in here or not but here are the things I would change if I was in charge at Toyota.
    Cargo light added.
Locking rear to work in 2 hi and 4 hi as well as 4 lo.
Front locker added and work in 4 hi too.
Locking hubs like I had on my 97'.
Manual transfer case like I had on my 97' or if you have the selector switch, it would have a light on it.
Different color instrument cluster. I hate the orange/red.
    Heated mirrors.
Stereo play MP3 and have an input jack for them. Actually, I think some of the newer ones do have this but my 07' doesn't.
Have a message center that tells you average MPG, current MPG, distance to empty, and all of the other info things my wife has on her 2010 Corolla. I bought a scan gauge for my truck a few weeks ago because it has most of that stuff but it is not accurate at all.
Slightly bigger fuel tank and better fuel economy.
Rear disc brakes. Still can't believe the Tacoma's don't have this option.
Probably some other things too but I can't think of them right now.

You need to calibrate the Scangauge if you have not, as the Tacoma's engine computer does not send that info to the OBD2 connector.

We kind of had this conversation in another thread but..... How's the plastic parts in the newer trucks? I have a new (left over) '12 civic and the plastic is dollar tree quality.
