Get jibed by the Dodge/Ford/Chevy owners regularly for being a Yota guy- I tell em' I'll be laughing ten years from now when my Taco is going strong and they are a couple trucks in. :D
Yota Rednecks for the win. A jacked up Taco or Hilux is better than another any day. Unless it's a jacked up '79 F-250. Just because.

I drove GM for 22 years, since I was 17 years old.

My 2006 Chevy Colorado was my first new vehicle. It was used as a commuter vehicle, hauled things a few times a year but never anything heavy. No towing or plowing, never went offroad. Always did the maintainence and fixed whatever went wrong.

At 78K the cylinder head went. Next was 2 months of lies, half truths, and finger pointing. The dealer said it's $3000 for the head..and "didn't know" about the TSB 07132 on it that meant they would fix it free. They fixed it all right and socked me for $2000 for a cam and timing chain, telling me GM would reimburse it. GM said no, the dealer could have asked for it to be done free but since he didn't they won't touch it. I asked the GM rep if he thought it was more "common" as he suggested this was to have this go or to have my wife's 13 yr old Tacoma rust out..the one Toyota bought back for double the value and gave her the red carpet treatment.

I figure if someone doesn't like my Toyota, I hope they don't need $5000 of engine work on a 5 year old *insert brand name here*

What was the GM powertrain warranty at the time? If it was 60K, why did GM fix it free? If it's 100K, why did you need to invoke a TSB?

Googling for TSB 07132 got me this:
http://forums.trailvoy.com/showthread.php?t=28076 which is an ECM flash for emission control. How did not having the ECM flash result in a damaged head?

We had a 1996 Dodge Caravan whose 3-speed transmission gave out after 75K. It was clearly out of warranty. Dealer quoted $3000 for a rebuild. We got Aamco to swap in a rebuilt unit for $2000.

I can't complain about GM.I had a 2008 Colorado that I bought new.I never had one single problem with it!It had 71000 miles on it,and it ran just as good as it did new!The reason I bought a Tacoma, was,I didn't want/need a full-size,and I wanted a four door pick up with a long bed,not many options in that category,it's either Toyota or Nissan.I went with Toyota in hopes that all the talk of Toyota being the best and running forever and all that,I figured why not?If I don't like it I can always trade it in when the redesigned Colorado comes out.Rumor is,it will offer 4doors and a long bed.So far,I love my Tacoma, and see no reason to trade it in,despite some little nuisances like no auto headlights/doorlocks lack of interior lighting, and no sideview mirror defoggers. My point is,I see no reason to bash other brands, they all have little things that you don't like, just be happy with what you got,so far I am! This is my first Toyota, and,if it is as good as everyone says it is,it won't be my last!:D

I've gotten crap from my wife's family, they're all Ford people. My father in law has been the worst. He is old school buy American. He made the comment after I first got the Tacoma that I wouldn't hook it up to his other son in laws truck, would I? He has an F350 Powerstroke. :cookiemonster: I guess I should have said no, but will he take that big ass Ford through the trails behind my Tacoma?

Even their 16 year old boy has an 08 F150 4 dr 4x4 that mom and dad bought him and thinks nothing is better (than Ford that is) and talks about wheeling and it is stock. I started a thread about this (F150 vs Tacoma) but it kinda got off topic. And I now wish the thread would die off. Hell this kid wanted a F250 or F350 and wants it for wheeling. He has the bigger is better mentality.

Is that F350 a 4x4? If not, you may actually do OK. Just put it in 4Lo, which multiplies torque by 2.57, so your 266 lb-ft becomes 684 lb-ft.

If by wheeling he means swimming through a mudbog, then yes a F350 with 12" lift and 40" tires will do well. Any other type of offroading becomes a liability.

    Agreed Oz.
Just smile and compliment their choice of vehicle. After all, they are talking about the vehicle not You, or did you not notice that? They made the right choice for themselves, and sometimes folks just need a bit of validation.

I use to be that dodge guy but never busted on anyone who didn't bust my balls first, it's like being back in high school with some of these clowns. No matter how many times you prove them wrong you still drive a vagina on wheels lol. But when they go to trade their "domestic" made in Mexico the look on their face with the re sale value is priceless enough.

I had a Dodge Ram Hemi that I traded for my Taco. Loved it but always worried about the tranny falling out. I for one didn't look down of the Tacoma's but probably since I'd wanted one for a long time. Hell this truck is what I wanted when I got the Ram. But at the time I couldn't justify the cost difference. I gave quite a bit less for the Ram which was a lot more truck power wise of course, but that "value" when I bought it sure reared its ugly head at trade in.

I didn't read it all, but that appears to be a recall. Try this:

    http://www.justanswer.com/chevy/1gumb-access-tsb-s.html

At the time it was 3yr/36k. The heads on the 4 and 5 cylinder Colorado/Canyon were junk, some of them went as early as 20K. When GM realized it was a faulty head they decided on a 7yr/100K extended warranty on the head versus recalling them to do it right.

EDIT: That explains it, I had the wrong#..07123!
