Some flags and center console divider... lots of things on the wanted list.
We took the top rail piece off of the wall that used to be there and mounted it to the floor. We put some trim piece on the corner to finish the edge. The railing will mount to the piece that used to be on top. If you look at the second picture, it shows how we did the finish edge.

Yes. We already talked to a contractor for safety/code issues. He said as long as we secure the posts with long enough nails or screws we should be good

Maybe I'm misunderstanding , but will there be newel posts that support the railing fastened that way or are you talking about field spindles ?

My bad. There will be posts. One against the wall, one in the center and one at the end. One at the wall and at the stairs on the other side. Railing across tops and bottoms with 6" wide, 32" tall glass panels. Same pieces will go down the stairs

Like this I guess is the closest. It's the same glass and posts.

Top mounts? If I am understanding you, no they won't. They screw in the sides just like that. I'll mount the top rail right at 36" for coding. It's 2 1/2" tall railing, 32" tall glass and 2 1/2" tall bottom rail. The glass goes into the railings 1" on top and bottom. So, the bottom rail will be mounted a 2-3" above the floor. The center and wall posts are 46" tall.

These are the newel posts. I'll use 1/2 posts for the walls. I guess they are only 38" tall.

It'd be nice and "open" for those open concept freaks!
