yes the amps are illegal due to the fact if you get a powerful enough one you can actually wash a channel throughout the country. bad bad bad jew jew. doesnt mainly affect any normal people but if you wash a channel that just so happens to affect a channel to a flight group or something of equal importance..... you get my drift.

Almost every driver at my work uses a Cobra 29. They are very reliable.

You can tune (modify) cb's to transmit at a higher wattage than stock. All stock CBs transmit at 4 watts. 4 Watts is the most the FCC will allow you to use. Anything over 4 watts is illegal, but who will ever know... Some truckers in the 1970's used 1000 watt amps which could short out electrical in cars next to you.

I was riding with a driver who had his radio tuned. He was able to talk to other drivers in Ontario, we were in Burbank.

You can go crazy with every "Story" about cb radios talking the world over....The small Unidens or Cobras with the right antenna can talk that 5-10 miles while the "BIG" radios can talk longer distances with or without "heaters" and if "Skip" is rolling you can "reach out" and touch those far away places...

For more info you can google worldwidedx or sparkys.......good group that is not hard sell and share their knowledge with both the trucking crowd and 4x4 folks.....wwdx has a few "crawlers";)

    Snoope back quiet
