This subject is related to keeping one in the chamber

There is this page on Facebook called "Sac State Confessions" where people that go to Sacramento State can send a message to the page and it'll be posted anonymously. Somebody sent a message and he says that he has a ccw and carries when he is on campus and I decided to get in on the action. I want to hear what your guys opinions are. ( I didn't want to start another thread since it's related to the subject)

Me: " just so i make this clear, I am in complete support of ccw but the campus is one of those "gun free zones" and if it's found on your person you will get a hefty fine slapped on an already hefty fine."

Then this guy Aram commented: "YOU CANNOT FUCKIN WALK AROUND CAMPUS WITH A GUN. ITS ILLEGAL YOU DUMB FUCK"

So I decided to comment back to him

Me: "aram you're ignorant, people do illegal things all the time and school campus' should be the one place where americans should be able to protect themselves and others around them."

Aram: "TYLER: you are and people like you are the ones that FUCK UP the school system. Im a both a gun owner , and a gun enthusiast, BUT IT DOES NOT MEAN YOU SHOULD BRING IT TO SCHOOL. school is SACRED and only for LEARNING. we can have our rights as Americans, but that DOES NOT MEAN, we should carry them to school. I feel sorry for people like you"

Me: "yes I know School is only for learning, so that means that I won't have the right to protect myself while I'm at school? Why don't you go tell the people that are shooting up schools that schools are sacred only for learning and see what they say. Instead of feeling sorry for me, how about you worry about yourself and I will protect myself and others wherever I am."

Aram: "PROTECTION???? protection in school should be provided with STRONGER POLICE FORCE. there should be better prison systems, psych wards, etc. in order for the nut jobs not to be roaming the streets, because budget is too low to keep them locked up"

Me: "Alright, so get that stronger police force then find out how quick average police response time is. Since we have a weak police force the average response time is going to be longer. If someone was in the same room as me and started firing his own weapon at others it would take me a matter of seconds to unholster my weapon and stop the threat. As for the better prison systems, psych wards, "nut jobs", ect. I am completely in 100% agreement with you. Even if we were to get the better prison system and psych wards there are still going to be people that will be mad enough to go on a shooting spree. Which is why I would personally feel much safer."

    Not true.

If you have a valid CCW, it is not illegal to carry on campus.

    It depends on your county.
Los Angeles County? Not without being a celebrity or a hefty campaign donation.
San Bernardino used to issue for "personal protection" under Hoops... not sure how the new Sheriff is handling it, but even with the "easy" justification, we have a very invasive (and illegal) reference requirement.

Central Valley and mountain counties? I won't say they hand them out like candy, but I'll say that if there is nothing shady in your background, you will get a permit.

Thanks for the information guys. A person recently pulled a pistol on me and it changed my way of thinking. The police were not helpful or assuring that there was much that could be done after the fact. I sleep with a loaded weapon under my bed for home protection, but the entire event got me a little shaken up on protection outside the house. Since I live in Sonoma County I guess there's little hope for a CCW permit.

Sorry to hear that, and glad you are alright!

    depends on the campus.

also, in some states schools, you may be able to carry on campus, but not in the buildings (depending on signage)

Just a few little things. It's my DD
I have a CCW and every state is different. I know you can't pack heat in side the school buildings, college or public schools in KY.

I don't keep one chambered, figure I could load as I pulled it on somebody(if I had too), but hopefully I will never use my gun!

Absolutely! If a life or death situation arises, especially when you're conceal carrying, the last thing you're going to want to remember is to chamber a round. When I carry, I carry ready to defend and that's it.

Hopefully I never have to use my seatbelt but I still wear it. This is a perfect example of a gun giving someone a false sense of security. If you're not carrying with a round chambered there is a high probability you will come up shorthanded in the event you need to use you're weapon. Don't take this the wrong way but... If people don't have the fundamental and basic understanding that a modern firearm can NOT fire with out something pulling the trigger then said people shouldn't be carrying a weapon. If you doubt your firearm handling skills to the point that you feel your weapon needs an empty chamber to keep yourself from having a negligent discharge... you shouldn't own a gun at all.

    What if's

-What if your assailant already has a gun pointed at you? You think you'll have time to rack that slide?

-What if when you rack the slide it induces a malfunction... thats AT LEAST one round that would have gone down range otherwise.

-What if one of your hands/arms/fingers etc is wounded and you can't rack the slide?

-What if you're using one arm to control the assailant while you draw and fire with the other? You can't do this very effectively with out a round in the chamber.

-What if you forget to chamber a round?

Pistol yes. Long gun no. Only a fool carries a pistol without a round in the chamber. I will admit my first handgun to carry was a HiPower and the single action scared me. I was a fool and carried unchambered for a year.
