One of our employees who had a take-home company truck (F-250) had his engine blown - after research it was found he had never changed the oil since he got the truck 40,000 miles before (84,000 miles at the time of failure). He said he was busy and always forgot to do it.
He is not driving a company truck anymore:p

Key is to change oil regularly, regardless of dyno or synthetic, although synthetic can go longer in between changes. I do dyno at 5k intervals.

The sad irony is the same people that will jump on someone to use the search function will also jump on the same person for doing a search and then posting on an old thread bringing it to the top of the forum. That is why I mostly read forums and post in a flurry then lay back and watch the testosterone fly

I lean towards the synthetic side. It all derives from dino to begin with.
I will also note that if new threads were not started, any forum would pretty much die by your " search code" Folks will be pissed for jacking a thread or starting a new one....who gives a shit.... I don't!
    Ask away ....no worries!:D

The best place I have found to read about oil is on the "Bob the oil guy" web site. Lots of those guys send their used oil samples to Blackstone for lab test and then post the results.

A recent post there was a guy with an 06 Taco V6. He runs Mobil 1 and changes his oil every 10K or so but had gone as long as 14.4K between changes. He had about 322K on his truck and his most recent Blackstone lab report [posted] was very clean and done at 11K.

To me that confirms a lot of test posted there showing that synthetic is good for at least 10K under normal driving conditions, maybe more.

That's encouraging, but what a shame that the manual says to change at 5K mile intervals. I know I will just because I don't want any grief with warranty if something should arise.

What do people think of store bought semi synthetics? Like valvoline. I've been buying them when they go on sale at auto zone and adding a can of BG MOA cuz I'm poor :(.

Wow.. lol.. for someone so high above this lowly thread, you sure are all over it. I think we all get it, you are annoyed, but the search function isn't exactly perfect. Plus who cares if there is repetition? Over time and with different engines/model years maybe opinions or experience with change. It's not going to kill anyone to get an update from time to time.

    Synthetic for me! ;)

With over 500 posts on this subject you really couldn't find the information you needed? You just had to start another synthetic verses conventional poll?
However, if you really need this data for a legitimate reason, other than to see your poll in print, I apologize. I beg your pardon for calling you a dip-shit too.

No way! Members have an obligation to everyone else in the forum, to start threads that are timely & interesting to EVERYONE in the discussion topic. This poll was neither and the OP was called out on it by several of us. The OP is not a newbe looking for information on what's best for his truck. By defending these types of polls/threads you just encourage more of them.
Edit: Who ever gave me the negative rep without signing your user name, up yers!

If I knew how to give neg rep I would. Can you even drive? You have to be under 16.. at least you act like it.

I didn't know New Mexico had a monarchy, but you must be a princess. He has an obligation to keep you interested or you come in and whine about it? Oh man that's just too funny..

Think you are doing a public service by dorking up someone elses thread? Oh and cite that other dorks feel the same as justification? WOW dude...

Note to all: *TacomaThong, princess of New Mexico does not approve of regular vs synthetic oil discussion threads hereforth and forthwith.

I use conventional for now because that's what the dealership put's in. As much as I hate going there to get oil changes, I am going to take advantage of the free one's I get so that the dealership has all of my service records, in the event I decide to trade the truck for a new model or whatnot. I only have a couple more freebies. Once that dries up I will go back to changing my own oil with synthetics. I don't really think it's that big a deal...as long as you change your oil within the necessary interval.

Until 30K my dealer said dont use synthetic or the engine doesnt properly break in. I can see some logic in that and it says a lot about the value of synthetic oils. I just dont think it takes 30k to break in.

He's way off in his thinking. My 2005 Ram HD manual suggested to wait until 20,000 miles if you wanted to switch to synthetic for the 5.9 Cummins Turbo Diesel, which I did, but that's a Diesel.

Today's engines for the most part can be switched over much sooner. Many cars even come with synthetic from the factory.

I just switched toi Amsoil XL 5W30 yesterday on my '13 and it only has 1100 miles. Not worried about it at all.
