Quite a first post...let me take a stab at answering a few questions since I am a 6 speed guy:

    1. My mileage has consistently been 18-21, but I drive mostly on the highway. I have noticed with very little increase in city driving I see a large consumption impact. If your driving mostly in city or suburban non highway type roads I wouldn't expect much better.

    2. The rev hang is a normal thing in most modern cars that are not dedicated sports cars. It helps emissions in some way by ensuring no unburnt fuel remains in the exhaust. Even my 2011 Civic Si had the rev hang, not fun at 8,200 rpm. A tuner helped it but didn't eliminate it unless I switched to MAP tuning instead of MAF tuning.

They make a thing called a gear vender but I don't think they make one for our application. It is and over and under drive setup. It i think replaces or bolts on after your transfer case. It allows the splitting of gears to get the most out of them. A friend of mine had one on a dodge cummins it was pretty sweet.

Thanks to everyone for the solid and helpful responses. I had hoped for maybe one decent response and am pleasantly surprised. Explanations on the shifting RPM's make perfect sense. I am going to look into the short shift kit as I think less throw would be good. At $110 and 15 minutes it sounds attractive. WeatherTechs are going to happen for sure. Thanks again.

In time I'll get some pics of my truck up. For now it's typical stock plus hard tonneau and armor tech Hi-Lift and shovel brackets.

Is anyone using hood struts that are worthy of recommendation?

Red Line struts installed on myTacoma. Very easy to do. Measure 3 times and drill once.

Try to catch a sale on short throw shifter. I picked up mine for $99. I also participated in a group buy for the hood struts.

I've the short throw from trd. Got it as part of the deal buying the truck.. I haven't owned a manual shift vehicle that doesn't have a short throw in a LONG time. Love it :) oh and it came with the nifty trd cue ball type knob on it!

Of course it would cut it. That's what they are meant for. Just takes a little time.
