So after a week with the volant and a full tank of gas, my initial impression is pretty good. My mileage was maybe 1 mpg less. It seems like the truck responds better to throttle inputs, not as much lag as stock when I press on the gas. It really isn't any louder at all unless I floor it going uphill, around town I can't hear a difference. I wonder what it's like with the ram air scoop, after I try out the afe I may actually buy the scoop.

How are you keeping track of or monitoring your AFR and fuel trims?

I'm assuming this is being done constantly?

I have a URD MAF waiting to install. Gadget hooked me up with the Volant settings. Just need time to build the connectors and splice it into the truck.

I have the torque app on my phone and a notepad I the truck. I know there's a way to have torque keep a list but I haven't figured that out so I'm doing it the old school way and writing the numbers down after I drive it. I'm not sure what the difference between bank 1 and 2 is, but the LTFT for 1 is around -10 and for bank 2 it's around -7. The afr averages between 14 and 15 in steady driving.

Any of you guys use torque and know how to make it keep track of the history for each trip?

The MAF Cal I bought from here came with his connection kit. I'm accomplishing the task differently. I will splice into the wires, however I am installing CPC connectors. One on the MAF and one on the truck. I am making a third connector that will allow the MAF to be unplugged, install the third CPC connector which will jump back to connected the Red w Yellow stripe wire that is cut.

This will allow a few things. One, if the MAF goes crazy, it is easily removed to troubleshoot or get you home. Second, if I do it neatly, the odds of tampering will be less if not unlikely to be seen.

Third, is the truck is out of 3 year / 36 month warranty. If I do have a powertrain issue, #2 above will be handy and easy.

I started to do the connector wiring, and as luck would have it, the gold plated pins from work are to small of a wire size. Two choices, don't crimp and just solder, or order the proper pins and sockets to crimp it all.

The fuel trim monitoring would be great to see / obtain if possible without a wideband O2 sensor and equipment to read / monitor and trim it.

Joking around is one thing, causing intentional grief to someone else because of their honest questions is unnecessary.

Great thread! Im planning on getting a CAI and since reading this thread(and some others)im leaning towards the URD. I had an open cone style CAI (made by Fram) on my 04 Sequoia and it sounded really throaty and kinda loud but i loved it. I have a couple questions though. Will this one work on the 2013 model? http://urdusa.com/p1260518504/URD-TRUE-COLD-AIR-INTAKE,-05+-Tacoma-4.0L-V6/product_info.html
And I shouldn't have any rough idle problems or get any "check engine" lights on if I dont get the MAF sensor Calibrator right away right? I may get it in the future.
    Thanks for your help guys!

I think it will work............just tried calling gadget (didnt leave messege)....if theres no change from 12-13 then ur good to go.

after initial startup u will have a funny idle for a few seconds but its normal and after that it will NOT happen again....

I ran mine without the MAF calibrator for a few weeks (on backorder) with zero issues.

I say Call Gadget, or hopefully someone has done it here on a '13

I know a few have with the '12

If you don't mind resetting your radio and clock you can avoid the rough idle all together by disconnecting the battery for 20-30 mins. Or just disconnect the battery and then install the intake.

Great! Thank you! I will call tomorrow and ask. And the URD does sound louder than stock in your opinions right? Thanks!

    louder than stock - YES
obtrusive and annoying IN cab while passing - NO
louder OUTSIDE to others while on the gas - YES
just a moderate growl inside....a nice roar outside.

Call URD whenever u get a chance and leave a messege....Gadget is in Maryland IIRC, and I have had him call me back at around midnight his time which IIRC was only about 7pm my time.

    He's a good guy

also, something that not many people know but YOU should.... Let him know ur military....some items he can give discounts on, others he sells a steep discounts already....you sir are entitled to a military discount iirc.

    Thank you for your service!

starts out with a walk around, and some exhaust flaunting....sure he has a 3" exhaust, and a y-pipe, but fast forward to the 1:00 mark.

He will do a slow drive by.....then a nice WOT drivebye and u can hear the intake over anything else till he passes....first shots are outside, then an in cab pull to show u how tame the intake can sound inside.

I have to borrow a GoPro and take a video of mine. You can't hear anything like that with my intake.

2.5in spacer leveling kit with Toytech AAL in the rear, Brute Force Fab front and rear bumper, AFE stage2 CAI, Alpine headunit with Rockford Fosgate amp and sub, tibted windows, KC lights.

I have the AFE Stage 2 SCAI and i love it, I did not re-calibrat the MAF, my MPG went up around 1 when I drive easy but do to the sound i get into it more so thats the loss lol, never had it on a dyno but i feel a little more power, its no supercharger but it has more of a 'free flow' feel. Its the only one i had on my taco other than stock. I have a video on here and youtube i did on mine...hope this helps.
