Yeah, they are pretty tough here in Ontario, Canada about street racing. Sold my WRX partly as a result of the new laws. The fine for 31 MPH over the posted speed limit is $10,000 and they impound your car on the spot.

Holy crap...$10,000! That should be a good deterrent...

Oh yeah. Its very easy to cruise at 100 MPH or 160 KMPH on a 100 KMPH on country highways especially since they are almost always never busy. 160 used to be my number, but no more. The $10K is one thing, but they take your car away and you have to call someone for a for a ride since they suspend your DL on the spot too.

I must say its been a good deterrent.

Those douche bags can do what they want...it's still going to happen. The death penalty hasn't stopped murders.

The death penalty doesn't hurt as much as having your car or testicles crushed. :cookiemonster:

I think it's funny, and I also think they should drop the leftovers off in the owner's driveway. You wanna race........? Great! Keep it on the F'n track.

    That's totally stupid.

    Obviously I don't know the details .....

Crush one car and they'll go out and buy another one. They'll get smarter and smarter and find the loopholes. If the car is in someone else's name or belongs to someone else - does that give them the right to crush it?

Treat it like a DUI and suspend their license or take their license completely, or send them to jail. Put the car in an impound lot for a minimum number of days and make them pay outrageous storage fees....(similar to bail or more).

That's a lot of $$ being crushed..... Are these people being paid the value of their cars (by the state)?

    Totally stupid.
That's personal property they're messin with. Isn't there something in the constitution about that? Amendment 5 or 8 or something?

A liscense is just a piece of plastic. A suspension doesn't deter anything. I know, I drove for 5 years on a suspended D.L.. Maybe drug runners should get to keep their planes after they get busted......suspend their pilots liscense.

That's enough to make a grown man cry! To watch your car get smashed!! I don't exactly agree with street racing and think it should be done on tracks but this is taking it a step too far! If they are doing this then they need to remove a mans unit for child molestation!!!

When I was 20,I bought a CRXsi that I repetedly tried to kill myself and others in.Invincible and in total control?....Not by a long shot.By the grace of God I wasn't responsible for anyone else's injury or death.Actually when I think about how I used to drive that car it makes me shudder.I don't think I was a bad person, and I don't thiink that kids street racing are bad people....What I think is that I didn't,and they don't have any idea what chances are being taken with thiers and innocent others' lives.

In my 20 years on the Fire Department,a number of years riding our Heavy Rescue,I've had the unfortunate opportunity to cut both dead kids and innocent motorists out of the carnage caused by people just having some laughs.

Sorry to sound preachy but Street racing is no good.:(

Sometimes a little preaching is a good thing for everyone! !! These kids should be made to ride along on some of those emergency calls and see first hand what poor judgement can do! !!

Many years ago when I was Capt. of our Emergency Squad we were called across the State line to assist in an emergency and what happened was one of the kids died and they wanted us to take him to the hospital so they didn't have to tell the parents that their son had died.

Too much time had passed and there wasn't anything that we could do for this High School Football star and I had to tell the parents that their son had died:( That was the hardest thing I ever had to do. The rest of the kids should have had to see death that close

    Thanks for Listening

Hey, you street race and kill someone then I think they have every right to do whatever they want to you. My cousin's been in a wheel chair with no feeling below his shoulders since he was 2 because some jack ass fresh out of traffic court was fucking around.

Please.... Tell me suspending licenses and impounding cars does a damn thing. Do you know how many illegal immigrants drive around in this country? You can't tell me THEY all have licenses. My ex drove occasionally for almost 2 years with a suspended license. We couldn't afford to pay the tickets, and she had to get to work somehow. No public transportation so guess what? She drove and drove carefully to avoid getting pulled over. After the first few months she didn't even think about not having a license. We finally got it sorted out just before we split up and I helped her pay the fines.

Yeah, it's a lot of $$$$ getting crushed there. Think about the psychological affect of someone putting $20,000 and a year into a car that's crushed in 30 seconds. If it crushes their will to build another one, then the goal is accomplished. Sorta like I lost the will to mod my car when I came to NY because I knew the salt and snow would ruin everything.

As for personal property and the state paying them for it.... OMG.... I can't believe you said that! Do the crime, do the time! When was the last time the police paid a drug dealer for the plane, suv, money, or drugs confiscated? Or paid a home owner for the door they kicked down serving a warrant? Or paid to fix a car they pitted or shot at to stop? I'm sorry, but if you do something illegal or run form the cops they have every right to shoot your ass and take your shit. It's real easy to keep your things: don't break the law! duh....

In San Diego, you can get fined just for being a spectator at a street race.

One solution they have here is to give them a place to race legally. They open up the Qualcom Stadium parking lot and cone a strip. They also offer what they call an Autocross, where you zip around solo on a coned course trying to get the lowest time.

That’s going to be the only way to stop it is to make more drag stripes just my opinion I mean crushing a car hurts but that wont stop anyone most people that are serious street racers don’t have one car when I use to do it I had a car I drove ever day another car that I took out to the races and a shell that I was building on the side. The real reason people get hurt is when they are acting stupid I have been to a ton of street races and I have never seen an accident at the spot but when people are trying to get away from the cops you see a ton of crashes. and recently I have been seeing people just start to race on major highways which is pretty crazy that just shows you how desperate they are just build more tracks charge a cheap fee to race and things will change. I drive 45min to the track and that the closest one around here most of these kids wont drive that far.

I remember in driving school, you would watch all these video's of dead corpses getting removed from vehicles, 2 lane roads lined with bloody bodies, cleaning human brains off of the road with a fire hose, etc. When my little cousin went through driving school they didn't show these video's anymore. It's video's like that which leave an impression. Now the censorship monger's only show happy video's. Too many parent's trying to isolate little johnny from the real world.

I say crush'em. According to the reports, these cars were assembled with stolen parts. It's not their property.
