It must be a dog with those tires and stock gears... I see 4.88's in your future.. What do you have for a lift? I hope you're not running spacers and stock UCA's with those tires unless you want to ruin them.

I made a trip from Nashville to Mobile AL, which is a steady decrease in elevation the entrie way, and got 28.4 mpg with my 265's and a 2.5 inch lift.. so with a higher diameter tire I'd say it could happen

Yes on flat hwy at lower rpms and with more ground covered per tire revolution than stock size.

This is my son's '01...it's a restoration project as it was definitely "rode hard and put away wet -- and muddy"! But, we're plugging away on it and have most of the interior back in it are working on wet sanding and buffing the 2,000 scratches out. More to come!

i guarantee you its a dog. my RC 5-speed with 285's wouldnt hold 70mph on the interstate going up a small hill in 5th gear... and you better get new UCA's soon.. or plan on having the death wobble in 1k miles due to those tires chopping.

heres a pics of mine... i'd be lying if i told you i didnt miss it...

    In your eyes.
I've always picked function over form & 255/85s will out perform 285/75s in most situations.
While the 285s were sliding around in the mud my 255s cut right through it.
My open/open 4Banger led the way & plowed the virgin snow for the locked V6s up the side of a mountain.

Skinny is basically better for anything wet. Fatter is better for anything dry. And dude that's insane u get that mpg! I can't really compare my truck to yours cause I've added so much weight, fatter tires, and lost all of my aero dynamics but at 75 on the highway I'm getting 18 mpg.
