These trucks are underpowered compared to todays v6 engines. I am happy with the truck but the HP is lowsy..2012 TSS double cab with 52k on the odometer bought new 13 months ago.

also the whistle noise from the grille/hood seal, annoying as piss. Should not have a 30 thousand dollar truck that has something that you have to fix yourself. Also not my truck, bone stock DC Sport 4x4. Guess I havent had the recall done, my truck will do it, bought it June 2012, no recalls or TSBs incomplete, guess I don't know what i'm talking about. guess i'm not a 'detective' lol

What I'm trying to get at is, just because your truck can do it, doesnt mean everybody else with a tacoma can. Your truck may have been manufactured before all this went into effect or the ecu flash started in certain areas before yours. I'm not reall sure. With mine, even holding trac control off for the 5 seconds, still won't allow me to powerbrake. I can dump the clutch and roast all day long but the second the brake is depressed, bye bye fun

"Mid size" trucks never seemed to be the front runners of technology...maybe you should consider one of those trendy car-based SUV's for that.

I like mine just fine, but I do salivate over the dodge power wagons occasionally. I rarely take my motor above 2200rpm, but when I do I am left with the sensation that it is plenty fast for a 4x4 truck. It just takes a long time to shift it. I'm not concerned about peak HP because I didn't get a truck to drag race. Way I see it, I've got a well designed and proven motor hooked up to some pretty low gears = good truck. Wish I had the e-locker and ATRAC, but my LSD has never gotten me stranded.

It does it's job most of the time, but Toyota's quality has really slipped. This Tacoma doesn't seem as well made as my first Tacoma and neither were anywhere near the quality of my Japanese Toyotas. Sad to say, but I doubt I'll buy another Tacoma when I get rid of this one unless things really change. No idea what I'll get as I'm not really impressed with any of the newer vehicles these days.

This. I've had my 2010 for 3 years now, and it's served me well. But I miss my '86. I miss simple. I miss solid. Nobody does that anymore. Don't get me wrong ... out of what's available on the market now, the Taco remains one of the best damn vehicles made. But Toyota's parts sourcing and build quality (like everyone else's) have slipped. It makes me sad. I think if I found a restored 86-94, I'd gladly go back.

I think you hit the nail on the head. Between cost cutting measures to stay competitive, and reduced weight to meet mileage standards, all vehicles have become cheaper and flimsier. I looked at many, many vehicles over a year period before buying the Tacoma. It is by no means perfect, but it seemed the best of the bunch for what I needed.

I am very happy with my TACOMA it hardly never give me any problems compared to the other vehicles I have owned in the past. I always thought it was BS when people would say toyotas are better vehicles , now they got me convinced enough to buy another toyota. Only time will tell how problem free this new car will be............I'll let y'all know in ten years..:p :D
