Not to tread on the political, limit the discussion only to the article.

    http://scienceblogs.com/deltoid/2001/07/27/levittpoolsvsguns/

    This basically says

On average, if you both own a gun and have a swimming pool in the backyard, the swimming pool is about 100 times more likely to kill a child than the gun is.

I don't doubt that number at all. And probably with the child riding in a vehicle the number goes up far higher than that even.

I think even the danger due to medical mistakes is higher than the gun statistics.

what he said. So if you dont have a pool, less likely of drowning. If you dont have a gun, less likely of being killed by a gun. Pretty self explanatory.

My favorite statistic: As the number of firefighters who respond to a scene increases, so does the amount of damage done by the fire.

I just wanted to keep legislative politics out of the thread so it wont be closed. And the statistics were a quote from the article.

The article was a fun read and an interesting way to compare pools vs motor vehicles and guns.

I live in a place that every day there is some sort of drowning and in the summer there are 3+ drownings a day.

This article makes me rethink storing all my guns in the pool. I mean if kids are in my pool drowning all the time, that might not be the best place for my guns.

Not sure if srs... If you are, source? Also, if a fire is a 2nd, 3rd or 4th alarm... then the fire is going to do a lo of damage, period... those fires require more personnel. These also include buildings that are so burned that it is too unsafe for any offensive fire attack, so the building is gonna burn down, but those fires still need to have a lot of people on scene.

(If you were being sarcastic, disregard the above... I had a hard time hearing people's tone... through text... on the internet.)

Just sayin - Good source for more current statistics, vs a 12 year old article using 16 year old stats.

In 2010, in unintentional injury deaths, in all kids under 14, Drowning is more likely (about 3x) to be the cause than a firearm used on accident, in a homicide or suicide.
