great :) BTW this can be built for under $50 (maybe less) - definitely a lot less money than a traditional snorkel and much easier install and truly a waterproof solution (unless the cab gets flooded over 12", which in that case I got bigger issues)

    http://www.aircraftspruce.com/menus/ap/ducting.html

I used 2 feet of 4" from engine to fender and 3 feet of 3" from fender to cab

also used one of their 3" aluminum flanges.

To transition from the 4" to 3" I used a home depot reducer (plastic), http://www.homedepot.com/p/t/100138...toreId=10051&N=5yc1v&R=100138736#.UTZSjRm650A

I may move to this: http://intakehoses.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=AL400R300&Category_Code=MIRM

Haven't bought it yet because the $2 piece from home depot is working fine...

So this location is not open to the windshield cowl, but rather into the passanger compartment? Did you need to make the hole or was it per-existing? Did you rivet the bulkhead fitting or just rely on the sealant? Finally, do you have a procedure for removing the fender? Phew - Great job by the way, I certainly like this approach over a fender snorkle.

Same sort of idea Tyler at Pelfreybilt did. In fact, I think it's exactly the same, except I think he used rigid duct/pipe instead of flex tubing.

Btw- If you reduced it down to 3", you likely have introduced a restriction in the intake. I'm sticking with 4" all the way to avoid this (old turbocharger tuner habits die hard......no, not rice. Swedish bricks).

Collected supplies today. Can't believe how few parts are required, and how cheap this is going to end up. And afaict, the only thing I need to do work-wise is cut a hole. Looking very much like this will get filed under the Cheap/Free Mods thread.

I plan on getting this done tomorrow (Wednesday). Stay tuned. If I get it done in time, I just might swing by the bi-weekly OC Tacos/TW meet tomorrow night to show it off.

yes - he PM'd me for the parts list after I posted it :) He did use flexible (except he went with the black color)
    http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/so...6-pelfreybilt-fabrication-34.html#post5828219

The stock intake necks down to less than 3" by the time it pokes out the fender so I was not to worried about this and the aluminum flanges (used for the cab area) available from aircraft spruce maxed out at 3"

Yes this runs into the cab - just under the glove box.

I used a hole saw to make a 3" hole (it was not pre-existing).

I did not rivet it as I felt the sealant was plenty since its not a moving part.

I have fiberglass fenders so it may not apply for you. But fender removal in general is easy.

    Thanks!

Interested to see how this turns out. Since I have no fender liners, I removed my intake tube from the fender, and the filter box - then just stuck a 4" filter on the end of the box. Sucking in hot engine air now, so not ideal (but better than sucking in mud from the fender area).

Ya that's what drove me to come up with this solution. Once I went to fiberglass fenders you have to remove the liners and it exposes the intake to everything - rocks, dust, mud and water.

I was never a huge fan of the traditional fender snorkel and with the fiberglass I would have to custom fit on to work which is why I went the cab route. I've seen it done on other rigs - Jeeps, early model tacomas, etc.

I have a stupid question... does this setup no longer have a filter? I have a 2012 and I believe the only filter in is the box that seems to have been removed from the pictures with the hose, did you put a cone filter inside the cab?

No this setup still uses the factory filter which is located where the 4" hose connects to the intake in the pictures I shared above.

I am happy with mine, I copied Wicked2007, used his parts list, all the parts he suggested were perect. It was great. I am going to change to a snorkel however. The noise is not too bad IMO but my wife does not agree. I do a lot of long trip to go hunting and there is a lot of inclines and it does get a bit loud at times but doesnt really bother me. You definately hear it at WOT. The only downfall I see is that if you are hammering the gas and have the recirc on the A/C going it might not get enough air, you can definately feel it in your ears.
Here is a vid I took to try to show the sound, sounds cool actually. This is with the go-pro in the case so its pretty mild.

On a 2012 the airbox is a bit different, I was able to tie in at the fenderwell, as you see here

I did it a bit different as Wicked 2007 stated with a reducer that I used as a clamping ring as well toattach to fenderwell

    Tied it all in

Definatley big props to Wicked 2007, greta idea and super helpful with sharing his knowledge on how to do it and where to source the parts:thumbsup:

Good luck man. Can't wait to see what you come up with.

I like the cab location for a trail rig. Not in a DD for me.

ahhhh...thats why you guys are running them there. No good choices for a higher snorkel.

My trucks loud enough already. Hell no with that racket :D

Nice and clean. I like better then the one installed with the zip tie bracing it. That ties going to wear through that hose eventually.

Interesting... I just know my filter was wet from the last trip sooo I need a snorkel set up and don't want to spend a couple $100

I would think so, my liners went away when I did glass fenders so I don't know for sure. The reason I did this reroute was because I couldn't get a snorkel on the fenders, hoping the Landcruiser Prado 150 diesel snorkel coming from Australia will fit, we'll see soon.

A big selling point with a snorkel for me is the 2mpg gain. I do like your set up, and would be curious to see if you see any change in fuel mileage, also, is there any in cab noise or pressure change, if you were using your heater would this suck heat out?

Thread jacked ha. The OP is trying something different than running it into the cab, hes going to keep in under the hood, sorta, from what I can picture. I'm very curious on how its going to look/turn out. I would like to stray away form taking a hole saw to my cab!
