It's my humble opinion trimming the TOYOTA letters in speedway blue with silver centers might have upped the "WOW" even more. But I'm a visual kinda guy so would have to see a simple first before I actually did it; never the less, impressive as it stands.

Cape Codder, thanks for the kind words. I'm kinda with you, its a bit much, but will do til I finish another set of TOYOTA letters. Several members were raving about the FORD Raptor grille, so I did it vs. talk about it. Gonna got back to TOYOTA by spring time. Will try for about .5 inches thick and 3-6% large than the original letters. The letters are simple; where it gets a little creative is a depressed groove around each letter for the silver color. Wish I could find a reason good enough to convince myself to put lights in, I really like the look, but just have no need.

The letters are not a long term project; however, I just keep getting side tracked with other mods, things that need fix'in on the truck, my R/C Quadcopter and computer stuff. There just is not enough time in a day.

I'm in agreement with trimming the outline of steelers4582's letters in SWB,
but I'd leave the face, stock white. A little touch of class, but you'd have to be close to see it.

I'm not a fan of the Raptor grill (or it's whole front end for that matter).
I don't think dremmel makes a router attachment,
that's the only way I could think of, to cut a "rabbet" in the edge of the letters.
If you want a "rabbet", just to paint an outline,
you might consider just beveling the edges and painting the bevel.
As far as the lights, I haven't had the time to wire mine in two years.
Apparently I don't have a reason either, but they DO look good.

I bought some lights to go behind it too but they are too big and my radiator is too close but I'll mount them on the bumper some time. Also gonna get a "TOYOTA" badge soon when I feel like forking over $45. But it looks so much cleaner and newer now

 

Looks Good. Picture's a little dark to see the details, though.
Is the mesh flush or recessed?
"TOYOTA" Emblem will look good.

Hella 500's are a pretty shallow light and might fit.

Where do you get a toyota badge like that from?

 

Check out the first post in this thread for a link. Cut out the letters, then taped off the white and sprayed the outer black, then cleared over it all.

Don't see many 1st gen Satoshi's, 'specialy with lights.
If ya get a chance, post up what lights you installed,
for others who may be lookin' for real shallow lights

Finally finished mine, ive been dying to do start one ever since I first saw yours. I did not seperate the letters but I liked the idea of the outline. I tried a variety of tools but finally settled on using a brush tip marker dipped in silver spray paint sprayed into a jar. The paint had great coverage and the marker had amazing control. Very happy with the results. Thanks for the inspiration!

IMHO that's an excellent looking Satoshi; the color combo has a great "pop" and that's the desired affect.

Again, this is just mho, because your grille mesh is so close the "black" spaces between the letter really show up, so, cutting the spaces out would go a long way to increase the "pop" value of your already good looking Satoshi even more.

Never the less, it looks great, definitely adds to your Tacoma, and I applaud your efforts.

I went back and forth wether or not to cut them out. It all boilded down to what I was going to use for the mesh. I found a few options at a local hardware store that I almost went with one that had a large diamond shaped mesh pattern similar to the side of a chimney top surround. The openings were so large that I figured id need the plastic area between the letters to mount to the mesh. My concern was how much of the radiator and inards would be clearly visable. In the end I changed my mind and went with the mesh shown in the picture. I had it readily available from a past project and cost me no money. In all the project was fun, and has me looking for more things like it that I can do in the future. Thanks for the feed back. Who knows maybe I'll end up revisiting the letters again.

Never really paid much attention to the Timberline Mica, probably 'cause I don't see many,
but painting your Emblem really brings out the color.
Like to see a pic of the grill on the truck.
I have to agree with Bob wave: hi Bob), not that I'm biased much,
separate letters would look good on that mesh.
The bar connecting them stands out.
Can't tell from the pics, did you paint the inner Grill Surround Timberline?
The part touching the mesh, that's dark gray, stock.
It's just another detail that sets it apart from others.

And watch out for that Mod Bug, it's got a nasty bite.

Yeah, I agree with you both, seperating the letters would definitely look better. I'll have to revisit that at some point. Yes, the inner surround is colormatched as well. My local Autozone didnt carry the duplicolor timberland Mica so I used the old toyota dark green with a light mist of black sand pearl. Came out pretty damn close. I'll have to wait until next week to install it, will post pics as soon as possible. Thanks again for all the great insight.

Hella 500's with smoked lenses to match Hella 700 Black Magic which will end up behind the grill,
The 500's will relocate below to the Light bar.
500's currently mounted on the BAMF light bar, but by the original manufacturer.
