    This is backwards in my opinion. I think a belly skid takes way more abuse than the front skid. If I were doing 1/4" on any of the skids it would be the belly skid, not the front one.

    plus the fron skid has stuff right behind it so it bending is as high a possibility. Like it bolts up right to the bottom of the front diff area so has all that to keep it strait..if that makes sense.

    im hoping to go 3/16s front, 1/4 belly.

    that's the dilemma right, stength vs weight. Weight is the enemy to stuff like axles and other drivetrain components. That's the reason a lot of comp buggies go with UHMW for skids. 1/4" is so freaking heavy and its amazing the difference in weight when compared to 3/16". To me 1/4" has it's place but I wouldn't use it everywhere.

    UHMW though isn't that much lighter..don't most run like 1/2'' of that stuff or thicker?

    but yes weight...weight is getting to be an issue for me..

    UHMW is definitely lighter but you're right using the really thick stuff lik 1/2" is getting pretty heavy but closer in weight to 3/16" than 1/4" steel.

    as for weight, no secret here but not only is it harder on the drivetrain, but I'm sure you notice how weight affects power too. I pulled my spare tire and fuel can swing outs a few days ago to clean them up and get them repainted after a rough winter. they are still off the truck and I'm suprised how my truck feels more "peppy" without the weight of both swingouts, the spare and the fuel cans.

    It's making me feel like I'm going to run without them most of the time and just put them on for trips where I need them.

    too bad the stuff is pretty pricey :eek: id consider it a bit more.

    and i think a regear will bring life back to my truck. But if you want to talk pep killer..light rack up top. No go at all on the hwy haha although i haven't tried it with the new fold down rack yet.

    If is doesn't..SC here we come or 3uz swap.

    Agreed... But I don't think the gas tank needs 1/4"... I'd do 1/4" belly at t-case and tranny, then 3/16" everywhere else... or, just go 3/16" and brace the belly skids.
    Plus, that stuff just slides and practically bounces off rock! :eek: Where steel has a tendency to bite in a little..
