Are you cutting the tree down just because of her or had you already planned to remove it? Those trees are a pain in the arse. Ours looks great in the spring and summer but come the fall a royal pain.

How is your pup doing by the way? Adjusted to it's new digs now? Oh and I forgot to mention I hope all goes well for your friend and his GSD. It's never fun when family members have problems that are life threatening.

Yeah that is what I get too. Sucks cleaning them up but the older part of Littleton is big on being a Crab Apple Blossom city so I would hate to cut down a part of history.

I have known a few people that have attempted to grow a Japanese Maple with no luck. Maybe you will have better. Make sure to check with your HOA first Rancher. :p

Meh, it's been a struggle. I feel like we're starting to turn the corner on potty training but she still has accidents. She will go days w/o issues and then suddenly it's a piss fiesta. She's still very afraid and timid and does lots of OCD things like pacing & circling when she's not in bed. We had some blood work done and just got her on some puppy Prozac so we're really hoping this helps her get over the anxiety that's keeping us from hitting training milestones. Hell, I'd be happy with her being potty trained and not terrified of us. It's been about 2mos now so I guess we'll see how things go. Hoping the meds make a difference since otherwise I don't feel like we're going to make too much progress.

My buddy's dog is going to be fine from the sounds of it. He's young still so that will help him bounce back. I feel terrible for him because he had another GSD about 2yrs ago that was stolen from his farm house while he was in Arizona. He returned to a missing dog and someone mentioned seeing a truck near his house and he later found his dog dead from what looked like being thrown from a truck or jumping from a truck moving at high speeds. He was barely a year old so it was pretty sad. Both of these guys are from high-end blood lines so he spent a large sum of money for them but that's the least of the issues once a dog becomes part of your family. The thought of him losing two GSDs at a young age is awful & I can only imagine how he was feeling.

BAH HA HA HA HA, yeah i was gonna say my HOA community might not like me even cutting down the crab apple tree let alone planting the japanese maple!!!:D

think the climate isnt right for them or what? we had one at my parents house in VA which is kinda why i want one, that and they provide a ton of shade with the dark red leaves that look like a pot leaf

WOW ost, hope your training becomes easier and the pup gets used to you guys and simmers down.

EDIT: Japanese maples dont like the wind, the direct sun in colorado, the alkaline soil, and the massive temp changes

There are a lot of Maples that grow well in Colorado but from what I have seen of others experiences with the Japanese one is they are extremely finicky. Phil get detailed growing instructions and a warranty from your green house if you get one. Who knows maybe the weird stuff will grow in the Ranch. :D

I do know that japanese maple makes for a great bonsai if you know how to do that sort of thing.

Yeah I have seen that in books. That could be why it struggles here. Maybe it does not establish a solid enough root system to handle a cold winter. Don't know.

It's funny that you post those because we swear that our little male dog was an alcoholic in a past life because whenever we have an alcoholic beverage he goes crazy and wants to lick it. He could care less if it's a pop or Slurpee or something else. If he smells any alcohol though he's all up in your grill forcefully licking your lips to get a taste.

Uhh... no. I would first need to own a chain saw. But I don't think your HOA would allow me to have one in the Ranch. It is considered a dangerous weapon. :p

But I do know a great tree company if you want to have it removed.

    Ambush Tree Co.

You just missed the winter discounts though. They ended in Feb.

That's funny. Of our two GSD's the female is the lush. And a picky lush at that. She will drink just about anything but Mexican beer. Last summer we were working in the yard and enjoying beer. I had a Negro Modela and the wife had a Paulner's. Twice when we were not looking she knocked over the Paulner's beer and lapped it up but did not touch the Negro Modela.

Our boy will not touch a lick of anything. :D

I don't know man the NWS says anything from 7 to 16 inches Saturday. You might want something with a bit more ground clearance. :D
