    I think the hiker they didn't pick up was more of a moral wakeup character for Rick than an actual part of the Walking Dead storyline lol

    Didn't think about that. BUT, can someone really be that stupid and survive that long? Guess we will never know. I think the backpack will contain basic supplies...Really, though Rick couldn't risk taking a chance as he may have been a threat.

    Well, one way to be sure is to go back and watch the CDC episode and then see if Jenner matches the hiker...

    The reference to Randall is just as you are saying about the moral fiber or Rick. Before he tried everything to help a stranger, a stranger that was trying to hurt/kill them at that. Now he won't stop to help a possible innocent person on his own.

    In the way of crazy town we've seen the three stages or maybe paths. Rick, Morgan, and the Governor. Even when reading the books/comics I've always thought that Rick could/would be just like the Governor. he's got a group he's trying to lead the best he can, has all this burden on his shoulders and eventually faults but tried to keep face. Eaten from the inside out basically.

    As for what could be with the backpacker (comic spoiler): In the books they eventually find another town that isn't ran like Woodberry where they send scouts out to recruit new folks. The scouts are often sent out alone as a bait, to see how the new recruits act while more scouts watch at a distance. It could all be a sort of test. This new town's scouts (books) followed Rick and Michonne Andrea and Carl for quite a while observing how they worked and trying to figure out what kind of people they were. (end spoiler)

    He wasn't far from the car wreck where Rick and Michonne got stuck , maybe he was in one of the vehicles and fucked off taking the pack with him
