Getting winter tires may help in the snow.

Really like the way that Avid bar & skid looks on your 2012. Looks better than that combo does on 05-11s IMO.......

You are not going to see that big of difference in gas miliage between a pre runner and 4x4. If any.

At the time I was worried about it. I was making less money. I drive about 2,000 miles a months so 1 to 2 MPGs adds up. I should have purchased the 4*4 but at the time I didnt plan on off roading much and I just wanted a truck.

Actually some mud terrains perform very well in our Alaskan winters. Depends on rubber compounds and siping mostly. I've been on my stock Dunlop atr's since I bought the truck in 2010 and have only ever gotten stuck twice, and never on the road. My wife drives a FWD scion xb and it does great in the snow....with proper tires.

I've heard the BF Goodrich KM2's, when they are siped, are pretty awesome in the snow!

I like it too! but I don't want anybody banging into me in parking lots :boink:
Besides, my truck barely fits in my garage as it is...

I usually get 20mpg every fill up with my 4x4 with mixed driving. Still on stock tires tho.

Oh man I don't know about that, that's a big block they've got. I'm going with the Hercules mt's and those actually come ready to be studded as well as siped. I'm excited to try them out. My plan is to run a 33 studded in the winter and save my 35's for summer.

There must be less traffic out there. In the bay area with all the stops and starts mpgs suck.

This has been discussed in other threads but it's worth repeating here. There's a lot more factors in driving in the snow than how many wheel's have the ABILITY to get engine power going to them.

Yes the general statement, 4wd > fwd > rwd may be made. But you couple that equation with a RWD having great snow tires, LSD (or other traction control), weight in the bed, and a good driver and now that RWD has closed the gap if not passed that fwd car with an open diff. In certain circumstances it may well do the same as a 4wd, get you from point A to point B.

    This^^

I've seen way too many R-tards trying to haul ass in the snow. I actually had a taco prerunner pass me last winter. I was in my BMW 325xi (awd) with continental DWS tires and he lost control and went off the side into a snow bank. He had nice tires and all, but I feel sometimes it can get to the drivers head. They get a sense of invincibility. Just take your time, drive safe, and enjoy the view!

Put weight in the back with 2WD good plan. Shift into 4WD place the entire weight of the front of the truck over the front drive wheel + the rears far better plan.

I'm glad I got a 4x4 - in the snow I can't even get up the drive in 2wd if I stop to wait on the garage door first... The city doesn't plow the side streets quickly, so it help just get out of my neighborhood.

If I lived in the south, a prerunner would have been my choice - I like the 4x4 look better than the plain 2wd look.
