So you've run out of competent and are now we're on to name calling... :jerkoff:

You've heard plenty of people use the terms understeer and oversteer in this thread NOT referring to the drive wheels causing the slide. Ever watch a car show like Top Gear? You'll hear it there also. Understeer and oversteer simply describe the way in which a vehicle loses control around a corner, it does not matter which tires are the drive tires. Understeer = car tires are turned, car keeps going straight. Oversteer = ass end kicks out. There are many factors that can cause these conditions and they are not always related to which tires are driving the vehicle. It's ok though, keep your head in the sand.

Arrrgggghh. I thought the above posts made clear I've been saying the term should not be used so liberally, it should be used ONLY when referring to the powered wheels.

For instance, tell me the last time you used the term understeer when you were in RWD and the front wheels simply slid. Nobody I've ever talked to or heard on TV racing programs uses the terms EXCEPT WHEN REFERRING TO THE POWERED WHEELS! Jebus . . . .

This thread has exploded overnight. haha. Just too much to argue against and for and what not...

I think I will pretty much sum up to what this guy said:
When I said what I said, I was assuming that people know how to drive in poor conditions. Obviously trying to power into an icy corner in 2wd will most likely cause a lot of oversteer and have problems, when I would just let off the throttle and coast through the corner, very low odds of the rear end letting loose on you anymore than it would in 4wd in that case. Having grown up in Idaho I have a lot of experience in driving in snowy conditions several months out of the year compared to someone who may see snowy conditions once or twice a year.

To sum it up as simply as I can put it, on ice, I'll use 2wd, in snow I'll use 4wd.

    Let the BS continue:cool:

You must have never been into racing at all. Understeer can happen on any configuration of 2wd, 4wd, quads, dirt bikes, etc etc. Hell you can understeer on a snowmobile, if your turning more than the vehicle is reacting its "under" steer, pretty simple

My truck just understeered in 4wd in the snow, then oversteered. How is this possible with both rear wheels and front wheels powering the truck:confused:

As a matter of fact because lawyers rule all now a days, most rwd vehicles, especially sports cars are designed to understeer. Keeps the sheeple safe.

    Uhh ... what?

Understeer or Oversteer has nothing to do with which wheels have power. It is simply a term, USED A LOT, to describe how a vehicle will behave in a corner, or how a vehicle behaved in a specific corner.

While it is true that certain types of vehicles have a tendency to understeer (FWD) or oversteer (RWD) you can not use that as a blanket statement to talk about understeer or oversteer as conditions and driver can make any car do either.
