FireFighter Helmet Cam

To the firefighters on here I am looking into getting a camera to mount on my fire helmet to record whatever we roll up on. Anyone have any suggestions or experience with a particular brand. Just curious and looking at this point. Thanks guys.

I'm looking into getting one for myself. I think it would be cool to look back at it.

 

I had the same thought as you, but I don't roll up on enough cool fire scenes to make it worth it. Although i would use the camera for twenty different things.

I would just say a new gopro. Nothing is fire proof.

 

From time to time we do. Maybe record live training and such. True nothing is fire proof.

 

I have been wanting a gopro forever, so I figured I could mount that on my helmet as well. The only issue is how far it sticks up. There are other cameras that are much more low profile but I know nothing about them.

 

I had a boot on my rig that I had to write up over the use of a helmet cam
He was taking to long to get it turned on and aimed just right while in a fire, told him it wasn't issued to him and to either practice getting it going or leave it off his helmet.
He didn't do either so he was written up and removed it while on my rig.

 

I could see that. I would mount it on my helmet fine tune the aim if needed at all. Then when I throw my helmet on click it on.

Great idea, i'm only a Junior right now, so can't go into any working fire.. safety/insurance reasons.
But i'll toss this idea out at the next meeting, none of them probably ever thought about it.
Seems really cool, wouldn't mind doing it once I move up in a month.

 

I was using the pov-vio non HD ( came out 6 months later). It was a little pricey and to me the quality wasn't the greatest; as the sample videos on there side showed it being good. So I bought one and mounted it to my wildland helmet. It got to be a pain after a while and the cord got in the way especially caring hose packs. I used it when I was on my helitack detail; got some good shots of our helicopter and some of the fixed wings.

really? What all are you limited too? We have a small dept and really as long as you go to meetings and training and do your part your good for the most part.

 

Exactly and you dont want to be in an atmosphere where your camera is melting anyways especially in a good room and content fire cause its probably about to flash over then your really screwed.

 

A helmet band with sprinkler wedges or door chocks or a flash light. Thats all no additional stickers other than whats issued and helmets must be clean and no burnt stickers

 

Ah little different around here. Stickers really don't see unless it came from the factory on the helmet. Tets and american flag on top mostly. I have burnt tets on mine from a live burn saturday. I am looking into the foxfire glow in the dark helmet band and the "wedge it" wedges. I am also looking into getting a flashlight. Know anyone trying to get rid of one?

I'm not sure what kind of helmet you have but we got the Bullard traditional helmets with the built-in traklite system and they are pretty sweet.
