Mickey Thompson STZ review

I started a thread a few weeks ago to see if anyone had ever ran Mickey Thompson Baja STZ tires and only found one person who did so I thought I would start a on going review of the tires. I will update with mileage, wear, ect. periodically. I do 90% highway driving and the 10% off roading I do is only going to the hunting woods, nothing hardcore. Light mud and sand typically.




20 miles
I just got these tires installed yesterday so I don't have a whole lot of miles on the tires but so far I really like them. They ride smooth and handle better than the stock Bridgestones that came on the truck. They did take a few weights to balance right but they aren't near as bad as some mud tires I've had. The road noise is very minimal.

500 miles
I'm still loving these tires. They have the same amount of road noise from day one which is very good. I did get to take them through some light sugar sand (Florida) and very very light mud. They did amazing! They pulled right out of the sand which was surprising because I usually run mud grips which don't usually do good in sand. The mud was very minor but they didn't break traction. So far great!

 

I've been considering these, too, for when the Rugged Fails give out on my '12.


What size did you get, and do you know where they are made?

 

Sorry I should've put the size in the OP. They are 265/70/75. I do not know where they're made, never thought about it but I will try and look it up.

 

They are made in texarkana ar.

 

Ok so I've got about 500 miles on these tires now and I couldn't be happier. They have great road manners and I finally was able to do some LIGHT off roading this weekend. I found out they are great in sand! They didn't spin hardly at all with me in sugar sand. I wasn't able to hit any mud though due to the ground soaking up the water so fast since it hasn't rained here in a while. Love these tires!

 

cant go wrong with Mickey Thompson, I have baja claws and absolutely love them!

 

I would love to have bought the claws but i just do too much highway driving. I don't off road like i use to

I went from general grabber red letters to MT ATZ, I have to say after 12k miles they are like new still and climb like crazy, I will go back MT for a feature set of tires.

 

Yeah i think I'm going stay with MT as well

 

I definitely wouldnt recommend the Claw for highway driving, they are a softer compund made for gripping rocks and they would get eaten up on the pavement. Im considering the MTZ for my next tire, Im kinda over the directional tire.

 

True. I hope these last a good while. Money is tight and can't afford a set of tires every year.

 

I'm bringing this back to life, how have these worn? I like them but haven't found any long term reviews for them.

 

I have about 8k on these tires and they look just as good as the day I got them. They still ride good and everything. I'm loving these tires. They arent the best in the mud but I figured they wouldnt be.

Thank you sir. These tires are perfect for me. %90 on highway and light off roading the other 10. I'll prob be doing a little more serious hunting next season so that will give the biggest test to their off road capability.

 

How are these tires holding up? I'm planning on buying a set in the near future. Do you any pics of them in the dirt or snow?

you running the STD or E load range? im looking at the 265/75/16 STD

 

I'm running the std. No pics but I've been in sugar sand and light mud and I think they've done pretty good. Still look new

 

I'm almost ready to buy a set. How many miles do you have on it and do you have a recent picture?
