Could I make the argument my prerunner is more capable in the snow then a stock 4*4

Well, a catious driver works amazing. Chains are always required with a 2wd vehicle no matter what. Plus adding more weight will give it more traction. I own a PreRunner.

 

You rarely see 2wd's here in Montana either, if they are they are usually fleet trucks. The auto parts store has a couple Tacoma 5 luggers and Rangers that are 2wd as well. They just buy the cheapest trucks possible. Other than that, everyone here has a 4x4, especially if you live out in the country, you'd be a fool not to. Sometimes after a good storm the plows wont get to you for a few days. They always plow the highways and towns first, than they worry about the county roads.

 

I'm saying this because, I am an hour away from the Snow, and 2-3 hours away from Yosemite.

Having it snow in Canada would be way different then having it snow say in Texas. Yeah! Just because you're on the same continent doesn't mean that the same amount of snow is going to be happening everywhere. You can ask any who deals with snow most of the year and they are not going to agree with you. Come to Alberta after 30 cm's of snow have fallen, let's see if a prerunner would make it though, it wouldn't!

 

When I was stationed in Colorado, all the California refugees in their luxury SUV's were usually the first ones in a ditch. When I had my 2WD 5 lugger, I did just fine with the set of 215/75 15 BFG ATs rated for severe snow.

 

If 2wd was more capable, lighter, cheaper to buy and cheaper to maintain, why would anyone buy 4x4?

Here in SoCal you really don't need a 4x4, but I have taken enough trips in crazy trails and snowy locales that I have always wanted one. This is my first..

Oh and the "Well my 2 wheel drive has better traction than a 4x4 with bald tires" argument is silly. That's like saying a midget is taller than Michael Jordan when Michael Jordan is laying down. Bizarre self-delusion going on there.

 

4wd with duratrac's no issues in the snow.

I drove 2wd in my curret truck with the 35" MTRs. On icy highways an streets. If I can do that, there's NO excuse for anyone else to be a bad driver in the snow with any vehicle.

 

Until Jordan goes to stand up and realizes he's got slick shoes on and standing on ice. Timberrrrrrr.

Lol, I think you may have missed the point. It was about height and saying that the only way to try to level the playing field is bring the other option down somehow, hence say, "Well.. if they had bald tires... MAYBE then.."

You might be able to get by in the snow with a good set of winters and driving skill. The 4x4 will not get stuck as easily as rwd especially in extreme conditions.

I would say your def not as capable as a 4X4. Guys that get cocky with their 2wd always end up looking like asses, don't be that guy haha

And if they say use chains use them. I personally don't think they do a damn thing unless your on ice. But I've travelled out west and when they require them ive put them on. Isn't it a law to put them on when they require them in most areas?

 

No, you're missing my point. What happens to Jordan when he falls down next to a midget? He's losing in the height contest at that point. It doesn't just take bald tires, it is also true with the wrong tires.

 

But this non-cocky 2wd owner sees cocky 4x4 guys off the road looking like asses all the time.
