Right, I might just wind up getting one, I would love to be able to keep things semi-dry in my bed. On another note, are there any places to off road around here?? I tried to just get my truck a little dirty at the giant empty dirt lot behind Walmart on Vestal Parkway (looks like an old unused construction site), but whoever owns the place quickly drove out in a blazer and chased me off lol. I haven't been able to find anything else

It does keep things dry, but having to be careful to not open it during the winter makes me wish I didn't have it sometimes. :(

You need to look for seasonal use roads, state land access roads, that sort of thing. I know a few places around here. They can be challenging depending on the weather. Snow covered, washed out, mud, whatever.

Yeah I could definitely see how that would become a problem

And I've been looking in the hills behind the college towards Pennsylvania, I found one seasonal access but it ended with a barricade saying private property  lol ill keep my eyes out and continue to scour google maps

I'm out in Newark Valley, there's a few places out this way. A *lot* of the places in the Bingo area were barricaded off after 9/11. Especially the ones that lead up around NYSEG plants. There are trails down behind Endwell Rug Company and Burger King in Endwell (between 17 and the river), but you *really* have to be careful going down there. It's all river silt and the slightest rain turns it into a massive mud pit. I would only go down there if it hadn't rained for a week. ATV trails so they're a bit tight, but most are rutted out enough to accommodate a truck of this size.

Beyond that, I know a couple places between Marathon and Cortland. Again, depends on what the weather has been like, and if the state/town/whatever has come through to grade them recently.

I need a new wheel bearing and better tires so I haven't really been looking much recently. More looking for places to bug out incase SHTF than wheeling recently..... :spy: And putting money toward building my inventory before this retarded SAFE act takes full effect...

Screw that. I ordered 2 80% lowers that are backordered a month or more, but it'll give me time to order the other parts.

The 80% lowers aren't serial numbered, aren't considered firearms, and don't require FFL paperwork..... :D You can order all the other parts without an FFL too so I can build up regardless of whatever the fuck Cuomo says.

Add to that, Broome and Tioga counties are among a LOT of others that have passed legislation nullifying the SAFE act. So people are fighting back. (http://www.nysaferesolutions.com/)

I also have a vertical mill from Harbor Freight on order, and a buddy that can get worn out but usable end mills from his machine shop job. ;)

i SERIOUSLY need to look into that one because I've wanted one forever! Unfortunately I dont think Nassau (my home county on the island) will nullify the act though :( Regardless I don't think it would matter anyway if you build your on firearm. Any ranges around here to shoot? I would love to

These are ones I've found, but haven't verified all of them are still around.

Broom County Sportsmens Association 291-311 Foley Rd, Kirkwood, NY 13795 yes 9:30AM - Dusk, 365 http://www.bcsportsmen.org/
Binghamton Rifle Club 579 Conklin Ave, Binghamton, NY 13903 yes http://binghamtonrifleclub.org/
Berkshire Rod & Gun Club Mcmahon Rd, Berkshire, NY 13736 607-657-2702 maybe?
Ringneck Preserve 56 Olkowski Rd, Candor, NY 13743 607-659-3208 yes http://www.ringneckpreserve.com/
The Pine Lodge 106 Delmauro Rd, Candor, NY 13743 607-659-7719 maybe?
Square Deal Sportsmen, Inc. Route 26, Endicott, NY 13763 607-797-2548 http://www.squaredealsportsmen.com
Tioga County Sportsmen's Association 1141 Carmichael Road, Owego, NY 13827 607-725-9189 yes http://www.tiogasportsmen.com/
Silver Lake Rod & Gun Club 8017 Laurel Lake Road, Brackney, PA 18812 607-663-2435 http://silverlakerodandgunclub.com/index.html

I've been planning on getting a membership to the owego one, but never get around to it. lol I just go down to PA to a friend's house to shoot, or use the 1000fps pellet guns in the basement and barn ranges I have setup.

As for building your own, the BATF says you can as long as it complies with local laws. Mine won't be registered, and without a serial number big brother won't know about them.

    :D

These are what i've run across so far. I keep looking for more. Mainly to find smaller, unknown shops since EVERYONE is sold out right now! Many are back ordered until 2014!

I ordered 2 from the rockethub link. Mainly because they're taking orders, and the money helps fund their development of rapid production polymer ones so they can crank them out faster than billet or forged aluminum to get them to more people. Waiting time on that will be at least a month so I'm searching for the lower parts kits, upper, etc and buying a few boxes of ammo at a time. Cheaper than Dirt still had 20 rnd boxes for $19 this morning while most everyone is sold out.

Next step is going to be tracking down a jig, or figuring out how to do it on my mill without one.

NY had a ban on anything larger than 10 rounds since 1994. So if you some of those, or get some before the end of the year, you'll be fine. Just only load 7 rounds in it for now.

Then again, there is at least 1 lawsuit going toward repealing the law, plus all the counties filing legislation against it so they won't enforce it locally. There's even talk among the people that passed the SAFE act about changing the mag limit back so keep your fingers crossed! And sign any petition you can against the SAFE act or 2A infringement in general.

DIRT MCGIRT 2013 SPRING RUN UPDATE:
I believe I have the roads all mapped out for Dirt McGirt 2013, There is a minimal amount of regular 2 lane roads to drive the longest being about 1 mile, so the majority are seasonals, back rds and paths. I connected the rds starting from the Dunkin Donuts in Dryden out to Harford, Ithaca, Slaterville, and Spencer. Im excited about it, mainly to get Toyota Fam together and do some sight seeing. For you guys coming from Syracuse area, and Binghampton the end of the run will make it easy to head in either one of those directions. Ill get a mileage report on how long it is shortly. Make sure you start out with a full Tank of gas when we meet at D&D in Dryden. Official Time to meet is 1030 at D$D leave Time will be 1100-1115. We can get a group photo, Ill hand out the maps, and swag, go over a few things about it, THEN ROLL OUT.

yes that's the right one and there is a gas station across the street. I figured we could all top off the gas maybe grab a early bite for lunch, get a group pic, ill hand out the swag I have and we can get at it. The roads I scouted are fun to be on with good scenery, and some challenging spots throughout. I suggest that everyone stays to the end because Gleason hill rd is great fun with a nasty pit before the climb up Gleason.
