I'll give that a try tomorrow.

Damn, that sucks, we're in a similar position now.

Exactly what i was thinking lol

    Na respirators are for pussies.

J/k they make it a much more pleasurable experience during and after. Also ventilation, i also have used a fan, just have to make sure it doesn't mess with the shielding gas.

Gotta get one of the little R2D2 machines that vacuum the fumes. Has a magnetic base so you can have it right by your work piece. It filters out the bad stuff.

Do you guys know if CO2 or other welding tanks go 100% bad? I know they need to get checked and stuff but want to know if they ever go 100% bad and what happens to them when they are that bad? I want some to cut up and make a few things out of them but don't want to waste a good tank or spend too much if I don't have to.

Most of the time, when a tank won't pass hydro, it's cause there's rust in the tank. Sometimes they get drilled. At the very least, it'll get stamped or the valve taken off.

I'll have to call some welding supply places and see if they have any smaller ones that won't pass hydro then.

I forget what you call them, but I really want to get one of the helmets with respirator, some of them have flip up lenses so you can use it while grinding etc.

I tried welding scrap brass today, welded great, no porosity.

The vacuum is kinda cool in that it sucks everything out of the way. The Welding Tips and Tricks dude made a table that allowed you to use R2D2 as a table then sucked the fumes down.

You can pick up a respirator for $25 that works. 3M. Then there are the fan driven ones which are bank. Cyberweld have a bunch of them that around $1000 for the helmet and respirator.

I have a 3m respirator works ok but I eventually want to get helmet/respirator, they have ones that you can use for non welding/non welding applications grinding etc. They're $$$$ but it's worth it, parkinson's/dementia runs in the family and there have been some links to working with metal.

Going to pick up a Millermatic 211 Monday afternoon if deliveryis accurate :D:D:D and wanting to know what kind of welding hood/lens should I need to be lookingfor? I don’t want to spend a lot but I want a very reliable one so I canpurchase two (for the son) to teach him also. Any info will be greatlyappreciated. Been YEARS since I have done any welding and I know things havechanged.

If you want an auto-darkening just choose a good brand name and the price/feature point you want and go with it.
    Miller, speedglas, optrel, Tweco etc

Most helmets on here our real good and decent prices. I have used Jackson, Huntsmans, and Speedglass which are by 3M.

I've used the Jackson auto darkeners, they're nice and seem to work well.

An auto darkening is reccomended for ease of use. If going this route, try to find one that is variable darkening, adjustable darkening settings. Some only have one shade, but many have this feature. For welding with lower amps, you may want a lighter shade and darker for higher amp settings. I prefer the solar powered vs the battery powered ones. This type uses the power of the arc to darken it, so no need to worry about changing batteries or them running down during the middle of running a bead. I have a Miller Elite, and usually use shade 10. The second photo is a little custom painting I did to it.

I know some on here will give me shit for saying this, but my harbor freight auto darkening helmet was dirt cheap and works just as good as any other helmet Ive used

Picked up a Millermatic 130 with full gas setup for $250 yesterday. Welds pretty dang good. Excited to weld some projects with gas instead of my usual flux core!

Sounds like you need to use some better helmets :p

I have 2 of the harbor freight auto darkening helmets and they do get the job done but they dont hold a candle to my miller performance or elite i use for work.
