    Hey TW,

So today, I noticed my transmission check plug was leaking, due to me not putting in a new washer. So, I was like might as well do a tranny flush and refill. Well it didn't go to plan after putting all the screws back in. The drain plug screw got stripped because of the transmission pan twice! I bought a new bolt same shit. So I gave up and bought new parts.

    Parts bought:
    Transmission Oil pan
    Transmission oil pan gasket
    New washers
    New drain plug bolt.

    Questions:
Is this all the parts I need?
How do I remove the transmission pan?
-Do I just unbolt the surrounding tranny pan after drain, would it easily pop open? I'm planning to reuse the tranny oil since it's new.

Will the tranny fluid still be 4-5qt or more?

    Thanks!

What caused it to strip the plug? It sounds like you are saying the threaded hole in the pan is screwed up and that is what is stripping the plug? Over torqued?

It seems you have all the parts needed, you may want to get some gasket sealer ( I use what they use at the Toyota dealer ).

remove all the bolts around the pan and it should come off with a little persuasion. Be Very careful to not scar the sealing flange on the transmission taking the pan off. That will cause a leak. Clean all the gasket material off the sealing surface.

You should be able to remove the plug and drain the oil into a clean container and reuse it.

Fluid should be still be at 4-5 qts right? Never did this before, so more info the better! Thanks!

It'll take a little extra than just a drain and refill. Definitely catch it and filter it like you say. Don't want any shavings from the stripped plug. Unbolt the pan, you may need to pry it off. Luckily you've got a new pan so there's no major worry of bending the old one. Clean the surface and prepare the gasket/pan. Put it on, torque, refill, check for leaks, be in your way.

You could have considered heli-coiling the pan instead of replacing it, you won't strip that.

So how does heli-coil work? How do I know I have metal shavings in my pan? Is it harmful for driving?

Remove the pan then install the kit..its pretty easy and straight forward to install the kit..but as far as removing the pan itself and properly adding the right amount of trans fluid is a whole nother can of worms to work with ...

So, I think I may have some metal shaving mixed in the tranny, will it be ok to drive until next week friday?

A heli-coil kit that size may cost close to $81. New pan makes sense.

I'd rather have the new pan for 80$. That's not much.

My thoughts as well max. Since you've got it off, put on the new one. Fix the old one and have an extra :)

Is there a filter? I'd replace it if there is one.

Why can't you just rethread the pan? They make kits for that. I don't know the name of them though.
