Fricken' police. I loved and admired the police back east. California cops are absolute scumbags with no exceptions. Off duty, they seem like they are decent guys, on duty they are hyper-douchbag alpha macho scum-o-the-earth types that are worse than the guys behind bars. "Matched the description of a vehicle used in a crime" is the #1 BS probably cause cited in illegal traffic stops. You were targeted and they knew you won't argue that a Tacoma was once reported in a crime.

So exact matching plates and vehicle description doesn't mean anything? Do you feel that if they saw that they should not have checked it out? What if it were YOU that got robbed and the witness says this was the truck? Would you want the "hyper-douchbag alpha macho scum-o-the-earth types" to let it go?

Not being sarcastic or anything, just want to know if you would ask the cops for help if it were you as the victim of the crime.

Some cops are definitely douche bags, but by no means are they all that way. I have had very positive experience with the police. They deserve respect. Police put THEIR lives on the line every day to protect YOU. Some get out of line and sometimes terrible mistakes are made like this situation but I am happy to see the police on the streets. Treat others like you would like to be treated. KARMA BITCH

I was in the same situation when I was younger minus the taking of my vehicle.

An armed robbery had taken place in the area and the criminals took off in a black Mustang. I happend to be in my girlfriends black Mustang at the time when we were pulled over at gun point, cuffed, detained in seprate cars and questioned. I have never been so scared in my life as I too have never done anything wrong.

It sucked but after they explained to me why they pulled us over and did what they did I understood. Even when they apologized and let us go I was still shaking. My girlfriend who was driving at the time could not drive the rest of the way and was in tears the whole way home. We were roughly about 20 at the time and it was just a scary experience.

Anyhow I don't have any good advice but I hope you get your truck back soon Brad.

take your generalized cop bashing elsewhere

meh...not around here...it's a damn good idea, but sometimes you just aint got that kind of time

I've made several felony tstops and arrests without the backup on scene until I had all parties out of the vehicle

So let me ask, why would I call the police if my life or family were in danger? Oh man, california is so weird. That's why I have a lot of firearms.. I'm pretty sure yelling, "Stop! Or I'm going to call a corrupt unionized government employee!" isn't going to do much.

And as it's been said a hundred times already, if they had a full plate, this would not be the first visit from the police.

Seriously guys.. go on a ride along or two and catch police at their BEST. You will be seriously disapointed.

"California cops" operate in a different way than those "back east" because they have to. But it's changing out here, too. I wouldn't want to do police work out there, and if it ever becomes like that where I am, I'll probably leave the profession. I respect what they do, but it's not what I signed up for.

With respect to the OP's wishes, I've quoted below the first couple lines in his opening post, but I doubt you'll much care.

I've done MANY ride alongs and attended shootouts, hostage situations, attempted suicides and gang fights while in the academy but thank you for the suggestion.

I'm glad you have a lot of firearms, that tells me that since you won't be calling the cops, they have more time to protect and serve those that really do need them. I'm sure you have a permit to conceal carry (which is hard to get here) because in a robbery, your guns being at home won't help much.

First, I have NEVER asked a police officer to put their lives on the line. (watch a bit too much TV bro? They carry guns for THEIR protection, not mine..)

Second, Yes.. some get out of line and unfortunately the rest usually back them up. This becomes the basis for their policies.

Third, you are a liar. Maybe just to yourself, but don't tell me you are all happy when you see a cop pull in behind you. You know damned well you are about to be fleeced for something.

Fourth, I DO treat others as I wish to be treated. I'm honest with my experiences and if you would like to hear some real life experiences with the LEO's in California sit in a jury selection room and hear half the jurors get dismissed because of massive bias against LE.

Karma is a bitch, but something tells me you are speaking from experiences that are not your own.

so wait, did a LEO inform us that California cops operate on a "bend the rules because they have to" mentality?

serious question, wondering if thats what that comment meant.

if that is the correct context is there really a wonder why people really don't like them?

Fair enough.. I'll drop my anti-LEO bias and move on. Everyone has their own opinion and I will respect it even though mine has no chance of ever getting through the lifelong programming some people have.

You may be right about the East coast style of law enforcement not working out here. The whole part of the community, help people whenever possible, only arrest/ticket when someone REALLY needs it and give warnings the rest of the time thing probably wouldn't help the public image of police here.
