    No not at all..
I am saying that I will only tow very light loads(inflatable boat or light utility trailer) so tow capacity is not a concern. Diesels can be set up to tow but the main benefeit is that they just have sweet torque and generally get great MPG.
I haven't decided quite yet but I am leaning toward the 4 door.

If there are diesel trucks(big rigs) in your area(about as American as apple pie) then diesel is nearby.

The 4.0L Gas engine in our Tacos is rated at 235hp and 266 lb/ft of torque(basically not much torque OR Horsepower).
The 3.0L Diesel that Jeep plans to use produces 240hp and 400-420 lb/ft of torque(more HP AND monster torque from a 25% smaller engine!).
The diesel should return about a 40% increase on fuel economy when driven similarly. Toyota has been feeding us a basic underengineered cheap to produce V6. They have the technology but don't bother to give it to us.
    It's called profit!

Not necessarily true. Yes, diesel can be found somewhere in just about any town but if you have to drive 20 mintues away to get to the nearest station that carries diesel, then you might think twice about it. Also, when was the last time you saw a big rig at the same pumps as a commuter? Most of them use truck stops and I would not recommend taking a small vehicle into one of those. Those pumps push diesel a LOT faster and will overfill your small tank in a heartbeat and possibly give you a diesel bath in the process.

Toyota has produced a V6 engine that is being put in a vehicle that is dominating a particular sector of the market. Why should Toyota spend the money and time to modify a diesel engine that is being offered in other countries to meet our emissions standards? You're right, it's called profit, companies are in business because of it. I love when people fault a company for pulling a profit, do you really think they're making cars out of the kindness of their hearts? (that's rhetorical BTW, the answer is no, there's money to be made in that particular market ) Until someone really competes with them, they have no reason or motivation to change something that they already know will work. If anything, fault the other companies for not challenging Toyota and forcing them to do something different.

I guess that depends on the region. I see diesel available just about anywhere around here, but I realize that may not be the case everywhere. Also with the added fuel economy, the range increases. T6 Ranger has an 80L tank for instance and a lot higher fuel economy than a Taco does, therefore travelling much further on a single tank. Just another point of view I guess.

That is the problem i have with wanting to buy a work truck. I want to get a super duty in diesel but it is $9000 on top for the diesel engine alone not counting anything else.

If Toyota put a strong 4 Cylinder Turbo Diesel in the Tacoma it would become America's most purchased truck, not even kidding you. There is a such a huge market for a small diesel truck.

Do not fool yourself. The market is not that great. Just because fan boys on the forums clamor for something does not mean that the general public feels the same.

My reaction is based on people in the general public. Most of the people I am around want a diesel but don't feel like driving a truck the size of a bus or transfer truck to do so.

And short of a couple friends of mine who have diesel trucks most people I k ow wouldn't consider a diesel and know nothing about the fuel economy they get. Neither is a great sample size. I still TBI k myself that the diesel market is grossly exaggerated.

That is not the general public. Most of the people I am around want a 500 cubic inch big block, that does not mean that the general public does.

Believe it or not, the auto industry does a tremendous amount of market research and actually reacts to it. Subaru sends us survey s all the time asking what we would like to see. Several of the suggestions have made it to production. We (and many others presumably) even suggested a diesel and one is expected in the next year or so.

If Toyota thought that they could make a dime selling a diesel in the US, they certainly would. The thought that they are maliciously ignoring their buyers is ludicrous.
