I have manual locking hubs, and I don't lock them on pavement.

can you really blame the ifs for the reliability and durability when someone obviously wasnt into fixing things correctly on this truck from what you have told us? not trying to fling crap just trying to understand. if you pick up a time bomb and it goes off in your hand you cant blame all the clocks in the world. but i do see your point that sas is superior, just dont think ifs is the debil. think you just got a hold of one that was quite "jerry rigged" although i could be wrong.

You're quite right, actually. The previous owner did jerry rig the truck, a lot. I believe the welded front end (or possibly a spool) is what killed the hub, to an extent.

I ordered an Aisin hub rebuild kit to rebuild my stock hubs. Everyone says they are stronger then the Warn hubs. Also ordering an Aussie Locker for the front, and likely a detroit for the rear. Then all I have to worry about is the little bit of play I still have in the steering, and I'll be done with the drivetrain.

well i would say by the time you get done there wont be any components of the truck left that isnt practically brand new, other than the body. so you cant give up and trade it in!! also what kind of lockers are the aussie and detroit? electric or air? why those and not arb? just curious and trying to learn about other options.

Aussie Locker - A Lunchbox locker, Automatic, swaps out the spider gears with the locker. Ratchets at low torque to allow for wheel spin in turns. Great reviews, 2 year replacement warranty. $250

Detroit - Full size automatic locker, replaces everything but the ring and pinion. Ratchets at low torque to allow for wheel spin in turns. Stronger the the Aussie locker do to replacement of everything. Recommended for tires larger the 35". 30 day warranty. $650

ARB Air Locker - Selectable on/off with the flip of a switch. Works great with any size tire. Great reviews. Not sure about warranty. More expensive installation. $879 + $300 Compressor

They're lockers, because they force both wheels to spin at least as fast as the driveshaft. However, they do allow a wheel to spin faster, to allow for turning. They also make a godawful pop noise and so forth though... no offense to dave, but I'd probably avoid them if I expected the truck to hit the street at all.

I have a buddy in a Runner that has an aussie in the rear and he says it works fine. He doesn't have ANY problem with it on the streets.

Well, I'm aware they work. I also know people who drive spooled diffs on the street and don't see an issue... It's all subjective.

Personally, I'd put the extra dough into an ARB in the back at the very least, but it's not my decision. I like to chip in the extra for nice things though (like coilovers over OME), it's just my preference.

OME are coilovers..... just saying, anything you put on the front of these trucks are coilovers whether it be stock or aftermarket, still a coilover. whether they are set or adjustable is about the only difference. and i just cant justify double the price for pretty much the same amount of flex and droop??? but maybe i havent "seen the light" yet?

I've researched different types of lockers for about 2 months. Yes, the ratcheting sound can be annoying in auto lockers, but the fact that they work well and the price and warranty are unbeatable. And I can get the whole setup for around $1,000 installed.

For a set of ARB Air Lockers + Compressor + install, I'd be looking around $4,000. ARB's are not worth an extra $3,000 IMO.

OK, adjustable coilovers, mr technical. Same flex and droop, better ride, and I can adjust it as I keep adding shit to my frontend instead of having to swap coils or just live with it.

Although technically I have the extended travel, so I do get another 3/4"...

Man, you guys are defensive today. I understand why people do all kinds of stuff including lunchbox lockers and OME, I was simply saying while I don't want to blow everything I have on my truck, I'm willing to spring for the kind of stuff we're talking about.
