still got that knocky feeling

are tacomas known for having a crappy loose feeling in the steering wheel when going over little bumps of rock or ice? man feel like crap. dealer says it normal

 

One bridge I go over on my way home from work makes my steering feel like that...

 

my work truck with is a 2005 ranger feels sturdier

 

Has anyone figured out how to fix the loose in the steering???? After I had the truck for 1 month I brought it back to the dealer, they took out they checked both yoke, upper and lower. It felt a bit stiffer the first week, than it just came back the way it was.... Then they told me it was normal after checking on an other 09 like mine......

I'm going crazy! My civic feels tougher than the truck....

Yeah yeah the thing that adjusts the tilt and telescope is tight, and yeah Surfsupl I already tried letting go the steering wheel...it works, but I ain't gonna risk crashing the truck at every bump...I live in Montreal and it's a mine field out here... I'm looking for a real fix!

You guys that are having this issue, are they SR5 trucks w/o the Bilstien shocks? My new double cab is doing this. I am sort of thinking this is a suspension damping issue and not really anything wrong with the truck and it's soccer mom suspension.

 

I agree with Chris4x4 I think it may be normal also. I have an 05 and when i go over small bumps and what not i have the loose, knocky feeling. Even before i got my lift, when i would drive out to the desert and drive over small whoops and bumps i could feel the same thing. Mines a SR5 and i have Bill 5100's all around.

My uncle has an 07 pretty much like mine but his is a Sport all stock. It feels the same way.

 

Got it too, I have the tires aired up to 33 in the front, I'm guessing it's from that.

 

I guess that is fine for going to the mall, but riding up rocky trails it feels like it is going to munch a ball joint.

 

is this a 4X4 issue? I don't have anything like you guys are describing at all in my prerunner. Tires are stock running 40psi.

 

This is normal, unfortunately. I believe there was a solution posted at TTORA, but it requires a bit of welding or ingenuity to fix. It's in the steering column, and the steering isn't really 'loose' it's just the feeling through the wheel.

Hmmm, drilling and roll pins on a brand new truck. I don't know how I feel about that.
