Hi, so my bearing has basically gone to $hit, i just wanted to make sure, there was nothing else I needed to remove here, before I keep pounding it? I keep hitting it with a 3 lb hammer, and i'm almost deaf, but it won't seem to budge, a lot of the videos on u tube and diy's it shows the center nut and stuff, i'm assuming that's for a 4x4.

I took off both dust caps, nothing in there, and loosened the nuts, i keep hitting it on the hub, is that safe? or does it need to be on the bearing assembly, any tips for getting it off, it's pretty soaked in pb blaster

with all 4 bolts loose, keep banging on the hub and fit some pry bars in there to get it to separate some. loosen bolts as it allows. once all 4 bolts are no longer screwed into anything, if you hit the "ear" where the bolt goes through, to the side as to "spin" the assembly it should drop out.

took me quite a while to get it out on my truck.

What he said. Also once you ger it off you'll need a special tool to seperate the bearing assemble from the race. I had to take mine to the dealership to do that part, I dropped off my new bearing assembly with them aswell to get pressed in. Cost me about $180. Then took it home and put it all back together.
    4wd's don't have that problem.

thanks guys, yea, just needed some more beating, broke a screwdriver too, but that's ok, it was a craftsman,

frontsight, I was asking about seals that need to be replaced in the other thread about hub/bearing assemblies, are is it found in any of these pics? I'm assuming I can buy an assembly, bring this to a shop, they will pull it out, and press the other one in, and I'm good to go? do I need to add any more grease, if so where? and did the dealer charge u 180 just for labor?

Yes, one seal is on the first pic you posted. I think that's the rubber thing. You can't get to it until you seperate the bearing assemble from the race. See that thing with four holes on the assembly? That's where you need the special tool. Once it it apart you can see the inner seal.

Once you have the new bearing assembly in hand, you can add grease. Once side of the bearing assembly lifts right off. You will see very cheap white grease. I sprayed mine out carb cleaner- what I had on hand. I then packed the bearings with good red mobil 1 bearing grease.

Yes the 180 was labor, Toyota is expensive. My mechanic didn't have the tool needed nor did the autozone or advanced auto in my area.

I PM'd you my cell, give me a call.

I've had to open my hub 4 times this year alone (replace axle seals, wheel bearings, etc). After the "OEM seal" is broken, it's MUCH easier the next time around even after many miles. I was able to pull it off by wiggling it around after opening it the first time. Since you got it off, should be much easier next time around.

It requires a 20-ton press. My friend's shop had a 4x4 mechanic who pressed out the old one, well half of it because the bearing was already broken, and cut off the other half with a grinder, then pressed in the new bearing for $20.00 per side.

thanks for the help everyone, esp the phone support by frontsight!

just an update, looks like everything went well, truck is all back together and seems to ride fine. As for the big specialty washer that nobody can open on the hub/bearing assembly on the prerurunner, I stopped by 4 shops, and they all said they don't have the tool to do it, cept the last one, he put it on a vice, and hit each hole with a chisel and a hammer, and it spun off, so that's one way of going around going to the dealer
