If my truck was an 09, I'd probably save up and get the ARB's, too. Not worth it in my truck though.

    That's reasonable too.

And Justin, FWIW... I have nothing against OME, but if you think the ride is the same thing as icons, kings, etc... You need to take a ride in a truck with icons, kings, etc again. ;)

was just in one this weekend..... granted its still stock height:eek: so it has no pressure on the coils yet! HA (inside joke) but to retort: if you think the ride on OME's is that harsh you are doin it wrong... much smoother than stock and imo better than billy's with eibachs. I do admit that it doesnt outdo icons but at 1/3 the price i think it does just fine.... there is a good reason for any way you go with these trucks if you ask me. and if i was building a devoted rig i would go with a high end coilover setup. but its mainly a grocery getter so i dont see cuttin back to groceries to get the big names. (if that makes sense)

5.29's? I hated my 4.88's with 35's, because it was to low geared for me. What kind of RPM's are you hitting to do freeway speeds?

    ^^^This too.

Hmmm, and we wonder why the front bearings went bad...lmao.

OK, a little professional and experienced input here. LSDs and lockers have their place in the truck world. If you are driving through snow, or on slightly muddy trails on a regular basis like I have to, then an LSD is nice to have. If you plan to be an off-roader, and do some serious trails, then it is time to reconsider.

Here is my personal preference for what we tend to run into. This is for either solid axle, or IFS. When we run what I have seen most of us do, be it in person or on YouTube, I would suggest the following:

Detroit or similar locker in the rear. LSD is nice, but nothing beats the strength of a Detroit. They are superior on the trails, rocks, and mud. I suggest against ARB due to strength. I have seen many ARB rear lockers fail.

ARB or selectable locker in the front. The front wheels are the ones that are always being turned. Because of this, excessive strain is placed on the front axle parts. A selectable locker in the front has the advantage even more so on a manual hub setting. Why? If you have a wheel that is in the mud, or in a rut, and the wheel is turned all the way, a locker will have a chance to bind on the way out because of the turned wheel. If you take the upper wheel and turn off the manual hub, you will still get power to the lower, stuck wheel, but not have any binding at all. (I've done this before in Tellico) Also the selectable will allow you to turn it off, which if you are already under stress in the front, will relieve this stress, then you can relock and go again.

Another option, which I have done before on an IFS is to do what is commonly called a Pb locker for the front. I do NOT suggest you do this on a autolocking hub IFS though.

What is a Pb locker? Well it is a nickname. What is Pb on the periodic table? Lead. You remove the front diff, melt a pot of lead, and pour a SMALL amount of lead into the spider gears. You only want enough lead to lock the gears. This works the same as welding, but with one HUGE advantage. Lead is a soft metal. While it does hold up reasonably well to stress while wheeling, if the stress is too great, then instead of a hub breaking, or a shaft or gear breaking, the lead gives.

Again lead is a soft metal, and will simply be ground up by the gears into tiny little pieces which fall harmlessly into the bottom of the differential. It causes no damage at all to the gears. So if you are wheeling and it breaks, then you just drive with an unlocked front diff (Which will operate of course like it did before the Pb locker was done) and when you get home, open it up, drain it out, and start over. VERY inexpensive locker.

This is based on over 30 years of wheeling and education. We used to weld up rear axles back in the day when a locker was WAY too expensive. Back then a Detroit would set you back $500 or more. That would be like spending $1000 for a Detroit today. And they didn't have selectable lockers back then.

Eh, most of us have street trucks that also go offroad. I can't imagine running a detroit locker in anything but a dedicated rig, to each his own. *shrug*

Exactly. To each his own. If you had to go down some of the roads I regularly used to travel all the time, You would want a Detroit as well. lol
