Got alot I want to do but we'll see, that's what the forum is for...
    $300 for truck and $400 a month for fuel, I do 300 miles a week. =(

Not including full coverage @ $90 a month which isn't bad.

I appreciate the input but I did refi once already. I want a stick, decent gas mileage and room for my son but I was thinking Wagon (Jetta,Legasy,Wrx,Mazda) or a mini truck, Nissan - Toyota late 90's style stick 2wd for good gas and get to pick up some lumber or house stuff... decisions decisions... Thank you all for your input, I just feel good about making changes for the right reason, just need to do it.

If you want a econobox knock the wrx off the list I had one 17mpg all around and they need 93 octane. A Jetta Wagon or Golf TDI will be good but remember they have early timing belt intervals and they are a royal SOB in the ASS to friggen change

For me it would depend on which would be I nicer vehicle. if a $5,000 Subi is nicer than a $5,000 Taco I would go with the Subi. And vice versa.

I am in the same boat , I kept the truck and grabbed a 87 accord for 1k went To a your job is credit place and made to payments. Figure I will drive it till it dies. Still have the truck to do man shit when I need it. And with it being paid I only have to pay liability which is cheap and the total costs are still under what they were DDing the truck.

    $1080 a year for Tacoma?
    That's insane!

I pay less for my 2013 truck, wife's 2012 RAV4 Limited and my 08 Suzuki Hayabusa.

Depends on which state you live in. ~$1k for full coverage is quite reasonable IMO when it isn't subsidized by the gov't or through some kind of cooperative.

If you want to see insurance rates like highway robbery, get a quote in Canada. Full coverage can be some $3000-$4000 a year in urban areas.

@Twony, in case you haven't considered it, diesel costs more. So 50 mpg in a VW TDI isn't much better than 35 mpg gas for fuel costs. With your budget, a Matrix (i.e. Corolla wagon) would be reliable and easy to work on. There are fewer stick shift Matrix, though.

What's your age? My bikes insurance is $108 a year and that's full coverage with Theft and $20,000 bodily damage. I pay it off and don't take it off the road just cause its cheap

They are cheap for good reason. There is also good reasons why they are no longer made. Pure junk
