Max actually stripped the splines out of the carrrier on the diff. he had to get a replacement from ecgs.... its just not a good idea man. and plus since its selectable, use it like a selectable. that is of course if u dont care about breakin shit

The way I see it, you don't need your locker all the time. If you leave it on all the time, you may make it out without issue or you could possibly damage something. If you turn it off, you no longer leave it to chance and have more control over damage prevention.

I see. I thought he broke the axle.

It may be selectable but when crawling the rear doesn't usually engage very quickly so that is why I pretty much leave it engaged all the time.

I only use my front locker when i know ill need it but the rear is a lock right i don't have much control over it. About 5 months ago something happend and that sucker hasnt unlocked since and it's my DD. nothing broken yet but either way im pulling it down and replacing the springs and pin in it before moab. also rear axle bearing have 260 K on them and one is making noise and im sure it's due for breaks so basically a rear end rebuild is gonna happen

I try not to beat up the Tacoma unless I have to. haha I'd rather just lock the locker and walk up the obstacle rather than abuse it trying to do it without the locker. That way I save the abuse for the harder obstacles. (I know that sounds contradictory since you can consider leaving the locker locked abuse, but there are plenty of people out there that leave it locked all the time with no issues, so I will continue to treat Max's as a fluke basically)

This guy follows that same belief so much so that he doesn't even have lockers. I've watched him beat the shit out of his truck and burn a good 2-3K miles off his tires trying to get up obstacles that his 37's would take him up no problem if he had just one locker. Sure it makes those obstacles more fun, but both around here (Southeast Idaho) and in Moab there are more than enough obstacles to challenge your rig. So I don't see the point in making the easy obstacles harder. [IMG]

Plus if people know you have the lockers they just assume you use them anyway. haha

Yup, last fall I was headed up Kane's and a bunch of Jeeps rollin on 37s and 40s coming down stopped to talk to me and told me I was crazy going up without a locker and just my 265 ATs. I waved and smiled at them as I was driving back up the road along the river headed back to camp and they were coming out. :)

That is the only thing I NEED before Moab. Someone just gave me one so I will give it a try then if it doesn't work I will at least have the antenna and stuff, will only have to replace the head unit and re tune.
I have been making due without a locker and have learned how to make it work, but I will have the choice from now on. i have a feeling I will be engaging and disengaging a lot.
I have had that pleasure a few times, never on any Ridiculous obstacles, though. I have been stuck on some wimpy whoops though and have never been able to forget that, that's why I got a locker at all.
I can't wait till its in so I can feel the difference and have the option when needed.
I read that story a while back, it makes me smile every time. Gotta love showing those jeep fellers what's up!

That picture makes the truck look HUGE. It looks like those tires are like 4 feet tall. Either that or the dude is tiny.

Jace is right about the use of the locker. Especially in Moab. There is so much traction on the sandstone that it puts TONS of stress on the axles/diff when the diff is locked particularly when turning. I've seen more than one axle/diff break in Moab and the trucks weren't even on obstacles, just turning on flat sandstone.

Definitely not good practice to leave a locker locked all the time in Moab, or in any other high traction surface.

haha, nope is always my answer:cool:

ya thats the difference between say moab and southern idaho. Idaho is a lot more jagged rocks and dirt, where moab is smoother rock and a bit more even.
