Transporting Bicycles, What do you use?

My 29r does not fit in my short bed. Come to think of it my GF's little bike doesn't fit either. Just one of those times I wish I had the long bed!

 

Just put the tailgate down. The 2 strap method is old school goodness, used it for years. A bungie over the back wheel and you are good to go.

 

My 29er fits using a Delta Fork mount. I do have to turn it a bit, though, which actually helps because closing the tailgate braces it so it doesn't move an inch.

 

Should have bought a long bed! Haha my buddy has a 29'r and we still have to turn it, but like WildonTheDog v v v. said it actually holds better and doesn't move. Mine sits loose with no strap for the rear tire. I fly down dirt and bumpy roads no problem! It bounces side to side a bit but it works!

 

I guess I'll just save some money and stick to the straps!

 

Looks like my setup, or at least it will, minus the roof rack. I'm a avid mountain biker, and my family of 4 bikes as well. I'm building up a bed rack for 2 bikes, wheel mount and I'll use my hitch rack for 2 more, when I need 4 bikes.

I also have a boat, so I'll need another option to carry two on boat trips, but for those trips we usally just bring the kids bikes. I do have a hitch doubler that I can attach, but I think the bikes would hit the bow on the boat on turns, need to try it out.

My mountain bikes have thru axles, so I need racks that keep the front wheel on. I just ordered inno rail mounts (c-track) and thule bars and 2 thule trays. Hopefully have it all setup this w/e. One thing I notices was that I might have an issue with my bed extender. I don't know if I'll have the clearance to swing it out onto the tailgate with the rack installed.

I went moutain biking last night and just put my bike in the bed, works fine for 1 bike.

Rocky Mount. Bike is a little long for the short bed, but fits nice and tight with some adjusting.

 

Can't go wrong with those. Still have them for the extra bikes in between the fork mounted ones when need be................

 

I won't standby and allow you to abuse my short beds good name!! Seriously though I f&$&ing hate taking the tire of one of my bikes off when I have a truck. You know what else sucks is when my surfboard hangs way out the back so irritating. But I love how the Short Bed looks. I know I have to get roof racks or something I just refuse to admit it.

 

This is the way to go, but honestly my girlfriend's old yoga mat works just as well. Plus I don't have to worry about the paint on my truck getting scratched if anyone runs into me from behind. Bikes are replaceable. Speedway Blue is not.

 

I can't do that when I have my bed full of camping gear and stuff. That's why I went with the hitch mount.

 

we load the bikes up and then pack gear all around them, but a hitch mount is definitely a good idea if you have quite a bit of stuff to carry

 

Yep, also got hitch mount in case there are 2 or more bikes plus bed load of camping gear. Straps worked OK that time in the old truck because I met people where I went that brought their bikes with them but if I have 2 boats, 2 bikes and camping gear and/or suit cases for longer trip then bikes would be on hitch rack under das boats.........

oh hell no haha. Everything has to be loaded outside. If I parked at my shop with a 16ft door, yeah no problem.

 

I won't get 6 bikes in the bed of my Tacoma, but I'll get it to work.

 

Is that a 7 foot Titan?
