I use a syringe. Works fine. I put in amsoil this past time so I won't change it for another 60k probably. I pretty much mall crawl to be honest.

that gear oil smells like ass too. when i went in to wash up my wife asked me if i had farted and i said not this time.
Back on topic- mine was dark at 30k but im sure it could've lasted longer. The way i figure it, i ordered everything online and had it delivered to my door, spent an afternoon under the truck, changed all the goodies, and spent under $300 IIRC. I'll take that peace of mind knowing its good to go for another 30k. The transfer case oil looked brand new when i drained it. the rest was dark.

just because it is clean doesn't mean it isn't broke down or not as effective as fresh oil. the reason motor oil is black is because of the carbon from cylinders.

You would think so. It even has a oil pump, but no filter or magnet.

Transfer case uses pump and magnets can make metal shaving "chunk up" and clog pump.

NP. There is "known" issue with Toyota 6 speed autos and sensors getting encapsulated in metal shavings.
Somebody put too big magnets and no regular filter.

Just did my 2010 "Off-Road" at 60k....make life easy on yourself guys, pull out the diff vent and stick the tip of the oil bottle in it. Use gravity to help you out, then just fill until it comes out the service hole.

:D ha ha most likely, plus its too much work to remove breather. Fill plug is much easier.

for the love of god put anything in it but royal purple, it is literally the worst diff fluid there is and shows accelerated wear

I replaced my 1974 corvette's rear diff fluid after who knows how many years and miles. All I can say is that is smelt horrible and was black and about as thick as water.

You can change as much or as little as you like, really depends on what you do w/ your truck. I changed mine at 50K and don't plan on changing again until at least 100-125K. (Each of us has our own favorite brand, just do research and buy what you like.)

i personally use amsoil in everything except my diff, i sent in an oil analysis on my 2012 cummins with 10k on the oil and they told me to run it to 12k next time.

I use the higher weight lucas in the taco diff, amsoil in the diesel diff

You just have to be smarter than the breather, clean the diff before you pull the breather and you won't introduce any contaminants... I agree it's not really any easier but I don't think there's any added risk doing it that way either.
