Search around for the best price too, I'm not saying that's not a good price in any way.. all I'm saying is that there were Glock 19's going for 600-620 in most places around here in Seattle (before taxes).

I found a place called "Ben's Gun and Loan" located in Renton, WA that sells the Glock 19 for I believe it was around $550 after taxes.

Also get the caliber you feel most comfortable shooting (whether that be you actually firing the gun or that particular bullet caliber impacting your target)

    My 2¢

Ah didn't see the edit, good luck with buying!

Also, don't forget (if you do go with a Glock) to research the difference between the generations of Glocks..

    same shit as everyone else
Never had an issue with my 9mm Springfield XDM. They are pretty cheap too. 19+ 1 with a 3.8 inch barrel. Fits nicely in the truck too.

They rusted over in 2 months, so they sent me new ones. Then I bought the Neoprene covers to help protect the new ones.

    And its fun to shoot

Hahah now now guys, lets play nice!

Mark(SeattleCoug) my daughter is 4 so she won't be touching that gun anytime soon :)

I assume the class for the permit will cover all the laws for Oregon? The guy at the shop said that they give class/permit for OR, UT, and WA..not sure how that works out.

Logan, are the Bersa known for malfunctioning? I don't need anything fancy or whatnot, just reliable with proper maintenance(of course).

And Jason, thanks for another suggestion for me to look into. Like I said, I don't know squat about firearms besides the M16.

Guess it's time for me to search for firearm forums? Not sure how bias those things are. Wasn't even thinking about getting a permit to carry until about a year ago. Seems like there's always cops in my neighborhood now flashing it's likes at least once a week.

Anyways, my camera has been collecting some dust. Wish it would be sunny on my days off.

Oh and I bought that toolbox today. Looks fine, a little narrow though. Only 12" wide :/

I have been trying to take mine out, first I noticed I have lost my battery charger and my battery is dead. So I borrowed my brothers battery and went in the hills. Started pouring. Left. Went back when it was nice, no SD card.

Just wasn't your day to shoot huh? Haha. I've got some zoom lens that I haven't put on in awhile, been using the prime 50mm.

Yes, the Bersa is well known for having problems, major problems. The trigger mechanism fails on them and they are picky on what ammo you feed them. If you are stuck on that price point look into a revolver. I know they aren't sexy but they are far more reliable than any semi-auto at that price. Your CHL works statewide and if you get the other states added on you can carry there as well. For me, the $200 difference between a decent reliable way to protect your family is worth every penny. Think about it this way, you are going to be carrying that thing around every day for many years, will you regret not getting something you can trust when the times comes to pull it out of the holster?

Glocks feel and shoot like the cheap toys they are.

Joe, take a course with Jim Jacobe, or ask him for a recommended instructor. He is passionate about making you understand the laws, safety, and assessing situations. If you can take his longer classes, do so.
Not all courses are equal. I took an Oregon/Washington/Utah class up here, and the guy was too interested in teaching us how to do the paperwork so we could successfully get the license. At the end, I couldn't believe how little we actually talked about gun safety, laws, and how to know when lethal force should be used.

Adding to what's said above by the others, I would consider the following:
-consider comfort. Go to a gun store and just pick up guns. Your hand will tell you instantly if it feels bad, feels right, or needs more info. Three of the big things I look for is fit in the palm, where my middle finger knuckle is in relation to the trigger guard, and where my pinky is. For example, I don't like a Glock 22 Gen3 because my middle finger gets slammed by the trigger guard during recoil. The Glock 26 feels unpredictable in stock form because my pinky floats, but once you put on a Pearce grip extension, it becomes one of the best guns I've shot.
-consider size and weight. A gun that's too big and bulky is the gun that stays home. The gun that's too small is hard to shoot
-the gun you carry isn't always your pleasure gun. It doesn't need to look good, and it may not be quite as smooth as the full size you have at home. It needs to work simply, and needs to work every time

For what caliber, go with 357, 9, 40, or 45. At this point, the size isn't as important because you can get some really hot rounds that even the playing field.

When it comes time for ammo, I would recommend Speer Gold Dot. Continues to be one of the best defense rounds you can get.

Don't be fooled by the Federal Guard Dog which is getting pushed as a good round for home use. It's a remake of a failed protection round that Federal used to make.

That's a very ignorant opinion. If you don't like a gun for the way it feels in your hands or don't care for the looks, it's understandable, but there is no denying that Glock is among the most reliable guns on the planet.

Shot IPSC for several years with my Glock. No issues whatsoever, no complaints. Put thousands and thousands of rounds through it. I can't recall even a handful of malfunctions. That being said, I have my eye on one of Kimber's ultra compact 1911's for a carry gun. .45 ftw. Just carry an extra mag. It does kind of suck going from 17 rounds in the gun to only 7-8.

And yes, Bersa is not a quality firearm and the .380 is...meh. However, .380 guns are easier to carry concealed more often. Something is better than nothing. I would rather have a .380 on my person then the .45 that I didn't carry because I didn't want to lug it around or worry about hiding its bulk. Ruger makes a nice little .380 as far as they are concerned.

Glock has no issues with reliability and shoots great for what it is. The issues with it come down to feel, particularly plastic vs. metal, or grip width and whether or not you want a mechanical safety. The new gen Glocks feel absolutely sexy. Aesthetics shouldn't factor into a carry gun unless you want intimidation factor.

One day...haven't even looked at prices since Newtown. I don't want to think about what potential price premium could be tacked on in this panic.

Definitely Kimber..... Although I am leaning towards a .40 M&P for my CC weapon of choice.

I would advise shooting an M&P first. I was really accurate but I didn't trust a single shot I took
